As for the sake of what you are arguing, Pokémon Trainer's design is clearly based off of Red's, not Ash's. But that does not make him Red. We know what his design is based off of, and that's fine. But we can't call him Red in the literal game since he specifically does not refer to him as Red... in the game. It's why we have to keep information about him literally being Red off the wiki, and only information noting the similarities at best.

The reason his Trophy outright omits any information about Red is that Sakurai didn't put Red in, and that's all there is to it. In fact, that should actually be removed from the regular Pokemon Trainer's trivia page. It's useless and non-factual. Link is a bad example, as the character's default is named that and he actually is named Link in Smash. While many different styles of Link has officially appeared in Smash, he still is called it entirely based upon his style and that's it. Adult Link is referred to as Link, Young Link is the same, and Toon Link because of the style. Adult Link was the most famous version due to OOT, so he became the default Link in SSB. Child Link(as Sakurai refers to it for Young or Toon) was another important one, and with a specific name. Yes, him being Red is solely speculation entirely. If he was Red, why does Sakurai not call him that and why does his actual Trophy treat him like a Pokemon Trainer only? I get that he should have been him in Smash, but that doesn't make him it. You're making speculations based upon a design instead of the actual information in the games and website. Also, you're again wrong on the Link stuff. The actual games do talk about Link in-series, same with Zelda. His canon name is Link in both the Zelda series and in Smash Bros. And the problem with that is, he's named Link in Smash, not "Hero" or something like that. Pokemon Trainer does not have an official name beyond that in Smash. And no, it's not the same thing as the games. Because, as we know, in every Zelda game, the official Hero's name is Link. This is a stated fact by actual sources, not fan speculation. Brawl, the official website, Sakurai, and every official source refer to him as Pokemon Trainer specifically in Brawl. I can't think of him as Red without factual evidence that he is Red. By an official source, not speculation, of which you are providing. And yes, it's easy to think of him as a generic Trainer using Red's design simply because it was the first Trainer design ever created.(and using the updated version for obvious reasons) I understand you want to think he is due to the character design alone. But another issue we come up with is that Red cannot talk in-game, being 100% silent. Yet this guy talks... like Ash. But since he can't be Ash either, we have a giant issue on our hands.
