Welcome to my personal tier list. This is the page where I detail all the characters of Smash 4, and tell you, in my opinion, which ones rule and which ones drool. Be warned that this is strongly opinionated content, and for the characters that I hate, I will probably offend some people with my descriptions of them. What descriptions, you ask? Each of these tiles has alt text on them, so put your mouse on them to learn what I think about them. If you're on a mobile device, you can still view the source code by tapping edit this page at the top. By the way, sometimes even some of the characters I hate the most get used by me from time to time, so just because a character appears at the bottom of this list doesn't mean I don't use them - it more likely means using them against me will result in me hating your guts.

This is NOT an official tier list, merely my opinions on where each character should be. If you came here looking for the official tier lists, you can find them here.

So without further ado, let's get to the list.

The coloured tiles will detail what I think about the characters in general, in each corresponding tier.

  • Matchup(+4)9T.png: My go-to characters. The big guns. I can nearly always depend on these guys for a strong win.❤
  • Matchup(+3)9T.png: When I have to settle for second-best, these guys are the first ones I think of.
  • Matchup(+2)9T.png: Most of my counterpicks are here.
  • Matchup(+1)9T.png: I rarely play these guys, but I still like them a bit.
  • Matchup(0)9T.png: I rarely play these guys, but I don't dislike them.
  • Matchup(-1)9T.png: I might play these guys, but I think they suck.
  • Matchup(-2)9T.png: I hate these guys with a passion.
  • Matchup(-3)9T.png: These guys are TRASH.
Tier Characters
+4 My one true main. He sits in the middle of the official tier list, but here he's the bomb. With him, I developed many useful combo ideas such as the grab release, which lets me double neutral or down-B (the latter of which sometimes breaks shields), as well as a kill combo I nicknamed the 'Tic-Tac-Tomb', which is a double neutral followed by a forward-air meteor. His double-jump armour and super-fast sex kick lets him break many infinites as well, such as Mario's up-tilt infinite (oh, we'll get to that!). Often used as a counterpick, but has some general use as well. My main uses for him include his aerials (especially that sweet down-air), plus Oil Panic and Judge. Following examples from GimR, Judge is often used at near-0 percents following a down throw, while at higher percents, a down throw is followed by an up-B. In the air, offstage, I can either chase, bait, or meteor. Take your pick. >:3 Another character who started out as a counterpick and eventually became a co-main. Little Mac is not known for his aerial game, which for me, makes it perfect for surprising unaware opponents. Little Mac can gimp recovering opponents with a side-air or even a down-air, plus I developed a technique for using KO Punch while dashing, which is also perfect for catching out opponents. I find that simply using Little Mac will put off SHFFLers.
+3 It's fun to play tennis with guys who spam their reflectors. Most scrubs don't expect a double reflection. I am the knight who says, "KNEE!" Always disrespect. Picked up as a counterpick to Sonic. That spear is ridiculous and I love it. Rock Smash or Fly = C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER An apple a day won't keep THIS doctor away.
+2 I believe they call a back throw into forward air a dank dunk. It's sure claimed many a Little Mac for me. Accept no substitutes. (Looking at you, Lucina!) I'm really feeling it. Especially the Buster and Smash. I especially love it when the down air triggers Deadly Blow. She has her own Heel of Shame. >:3 Dropping balls at a young age. Scuffing that heel with no fucks given. He has the Heel of Ultimate Shame. You might like to read books, but in Smash, the books read YOU.
+1 Usually used when I want to prove a point. The Bombo Combo is pretty sweet, tho. Always well rested to kick ass. Or give them the wall of pain. Trying to get my skill up though. Guardian Orbitars are rage-inducing tools. Problem? I've kinda slipped as Lucario. Probably need to try picking him up again. A character I actually like to play as a lot, but this is offset by the amount of people who either spent way too much time with him or only spam his B moves. Heads up, you're going down! I'm trying to pick him up. He is my species, after all. Gotta stay true to myself. Like Fox, I recently decided to pick him up. I have a newfound respect for this guy.
±0 Only thing that annoys me about Rosalina is how many people try to play her. For me to lose to a Rosalina is pretty rare though. You'd think that because I favour Dark Pit, I'd favour regular Pit, right? I'm actually kinda meh about him. Rarely seen, and generally not too troublesome when I come across them. Only problem I have with him is the scrubs who think he's the force he was in Brawl. I sometimes see her as a troll character, but she's not hard to manage. Given I can only play as the Miis offline, they've become just a niche thing for me. Given I can only play as the Miis offline, they've become just a niche thing for me. Given I can only play as the Miis offline, they've become just a niche thing for me. (You looked at all three of the Miis, didn't you?)
-1 Don't use him much nowadays, as that sword has way too much reach for the power it has. Basically, quite scrub-friendly. They annoy me. A lot. But I rarely see them, so it's okay. The best character to use if you're a scrub who only mashes the buttons. Why the hell did they have to make her intangible when using Nayru's Love? I'll use him very occasionally, but he's usually just a bane of my existence. Don't act like Leaf Shield does shit. Not as hard to deal with as Link these days, but is still a very scrub and spam friendly character. Picked her up recently, but I still think she's more like Zero Skill Spamus. I enjoy playing her, but at the same time I feel dirty for doing so.
-2 Up throw, Thunderbolt. Wow, is that hard to do. Also has the most bullshit dash attack ever. It's nerf or nothin'. Literally all the Link mains do is camp and spam arrows, bombs, and the Gale Boomerang. It wasn't until I worked out I could absorb the bombs that he became less of a problem for me. He's still very pervasive though. Yeah, spamming the projectiles really requires a lot of skill, huh? Camping doesn't require any skill, you fucking noobs. IMO he's broken AF thanks to his Flare Blade having almost no ending lag and his f-smash sweetspot being way too freaking large. I can't see her as anything other than a troll character, and the FG players that main her are so cancerous with the floating, down air spam, vegetable spam, and that bloody dildo she calls Toad. Generally, only my anti-air skills with Yoshi can wreck her. Good God, his voice is like nails on a chalkboard. That makes the many PK Fire spammers all the more painful.
-3 I encounter many of these players, and the overwhelming majority will try NOTHING but grabbing you, down throwing, and then spamming up tilt. I can defeat them consistently, but at this point I want to see SOMEONE do something different. I play him sometimes, and enjoy playing as him too, but the many For Glory players who spam all his moves and mash the buttons like a lunatic negates any respect I have for this guy, and leave a very bad taste in my mouth. Alpharad says R.O.B.s are a dying breed? Hardly, especially because of that damn gyro which is too easy to spam! Very cancerous, and like Dedede, seem to do nothing other than mash the buttons. Fights with this guy drag on WAY longer than they should because of that GODDAMN BIKE. Better known as Marth for scrubs. I have no respect for anyone who plays her over Marth. Very few things are more cancerous than a For Glory Sonic player. He has absolutely NO business being in this game. The new Greninja. It's nerf or nothin'! FUCK THIS GUY.
