'''TOKYO SMASH BOOT CAMP''' was a ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' invitational tournament held by {{Sm|Gackt}}, as an exchange match between foreign and Japanese teams. It was held on May 3rd, 2023 in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan during [[wikipedia:Golden Week (Japan)|Golden Week]]. The tournament was a double-elimination bracket, with a Japanese vs. overseas set in each Winners' Round 1 set. Sets were Best of 3, until Best of 5 started at Top 3. A crew battle was held before the bracket, with a live draft.

There was miscommunication with the organizers and [[UltRank]] on whether the tournament would be ranked, with some players taking the tournament as practice and Best of 5 not starting until Top 3. Notably, {{Sm|acola}} lost when playing {{SSBU|Pyra}}/{{SSBU|Mythra}} against {{Sm|Zomba}} and {{SSBU|Kazuya}} against {{Sm|Tea}} to place an underwhelming 9th, and {{Sm|Miya|p=Honshu}} lost Winners' Round 1 to Dabuz from playing {{SSBU|Hero}} in the match point game. acola tweeted he was told the tournament was an exhibition event, furthering speculation about the intent of the tournament.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/acola_Lui/status/1653717239227637760|title=acola's tweet}}</ref> The tournament was originally added as an A+ tier major tournament on the [[UltRank 2023]] Tournament Tiering Sheet.
