Supernova 2026 was a tournament for the Super Smash Bros. series held in Baltimore, Maryland from August 6th-9th, as the eleventh installment in the Supernova series. This was the first installment in the Supernova series to not be held at the Dulles Expo Center; due to the venue being bought out by IKEA, the tournament was moved to the Baltimore Convention Center.

Tournament summary[edit]

Super Smash Bros.[edit]

Although this event had fewer entrants than the previous iteration, it was once again the largest and most prestigious tournament of the year. Top players such as Isai, JaimeHR, and tacos were registered for the event, but dropped out. Conversely, the event notably featured Prince in his first major tournament since Super Smash Con 2022, and Tavomono in his first overseas tournament since Sunset Blast in 2018. There was also other international talent such as the Japanese players Kix, Canadian Ness main Fray, German players Wolvechen and Bert, and Peruvian Inka Fest host, Racilor. The latter player, using Captain Falcon primary along with a bunch of secondaries, made the biggest run of any player, making it from Division 4 to Division 1, playing 28 sets overall. Due to the lower entrants, this was the first Supernova to not place in the Top 10 largest prize pools for Smash 64 singles (besides the side event Super Smash Con: Fall Fest).

In the annual pre-tournament Combo Contest, Prince won after the first-ever sudden-death tiebreak, winning over Huntsman. Combo Blaze also made history by doing two different combos in one, as he had different combos with Donkey Kong using Pokéballs.

As SuPeRbOoMfAn usually does, he ran a poll to determine which characters he should play. Yoshi and Random ultimately won.[1] Kurabba, champion of the last two Supernova tournaments, was eliminated by losing two Yoshi dittos, first to Wizzrobe 3-1 in Winners Semi-final, and then to SuPeRbOoMfAn 3-2 in Losers Semi-final, breaking Kurabba's Supernova grand finals streak from 2022.

Wario made grand finals for the second year in a row. He dominated the event, only losing games to Tavomono and KD3. He solidly 3-0'd SuPeRbOoMfAn in grand finals, who unsuccessfully randomly chose Ness and his typical main, Captain Falcon, for their last two games. With this victory, Wario won his first supermajor since GENESIS 3 in 2016, as well as his first Supernova. He also won the pre-local over Tavomono in Pikachu dittos.

As per most other international tournaments, doubles was run as ZDP, or no double Pikachu teams. 53 teams registered for Sunday, though that total included some players who couldn't attend, such as the aforementioned Isai and JaimeHR. A few other teams also didn't attend, with some of this occurring due to people missing the start time due to the traditional 64 afterparty being held at a bar the previous night. The winning team was 1st and 2nd place finishers, Wario and SuperBoomFan, who mostly used the top team Pikachu and Kirby along with Pikachu and Fox, with Team Japan players Kix and Kurabba, using Pikachu and Yoshi respectively, getting 2nd.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

For RapMonster and Zain's feud, for offline tournament sets, the two would be even after RapMonster defeated him at Get On My Level 2026. Though RapMonster started off with a strong game 1 victory, Zain would take the next 3 games to end RapMonster's run at 3rd. This meant that Zain was up on RapMonster by by 3-2, though if one would count exhibition matches, RapMonster still led the feud by 4-3.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Player-1 won his 2nd straight championship, defeating Kyoz in the Grand Finals reset.

In doubles, Mikeray4 won his 5th championship (4th consecutive since first winning in 2023) with Ish using an unorthodox team of Snake and Wolf. This marks the second time a non-Meta Knight team has won doubles at Supernova and further solidifies Mikeray4 as the most successful 2v2 player in 2020s Brawl.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

Supernova 2026 notably reversed Bayonetta's ban due to Nintendo refusing to approve it; as confirmed by former tournament-organizer Roflfox on April 25th.[2] Regardless, double-Cloud teams remained banned for doubles.

Supernova 2026 continued the downwards trend of Smash 4 entrants, with 209 total registrations prior to DQs. Conversely, the event will be slightly more prestigious than the prior year's entry, featuring major-winner Lima, and PGR 100 ranked players Samsora and SuperGirlKels.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Prior to the tournament, several anti-Steve rules were established, one of which made any Steve player forfeit their rights to counterpicks. Despite Steve still being legal at the event, this created controversy, especially in Japan, where most players did not support the new rule. As such, only one Japanese player — Sumaho — registered for the event, and he eventually dropped out as well. Furthermore, likely due to the aforementioned ruleset and the location change, the event featured a roughly 850-person decrease from the previous event; alongside the lack of Japanese players, the event was also missing many of Europe's best players. As a result, the event was significantly less prestigious than past events; prior to DQs, it only managed to reach S+ Tier on UltRank's TTS, making it the first event in the main series to not reach P Tier. Similar to the previous year, Supernova 2026 failed to be the largest tournament of the year, losing to Kagaribi 15. Conversely, Supernova 2026 became the first United States Ultimate event in 2026 to reach a four-digit entrants count.

An incident occurred when players began suspecting that fluffysheep17 was playing under a sockpuppet tag. fluffysheep17 had made several upsets despite being a seemingly-new player seeded to go 0-2, including upsetting #209 seed LostVayne, #208 seed ScrubbedOut, and #176 seed Mystic. Players eventually discovered that fluffysheep17 was Jintus, a retired Pichu player from New York who had been power ranked at Stony Brook University, and therefore had prior competitive experience. This led the TOs to disqualify Jintus and revert his bracket to right after he lost to Apple Reviewer, allowing some players who he eliminated to continue in the bracket. After the event, Jintus apologized for his actions, claiming that he had entered under fluffysheep17 because he had forgotten his previous Start.gg account's details and had no intentions of smurfing.[3]

The first notable upset of the tournament was #112 seed Mercury defeating #17 seed Marss for upset factor 5.
