The tournament occurred alongside ''[[arms:ARMS (game)|ARMS]]'' and ''[[Bulbapedia:Pokkén Tournament|Pokkén Tournament DX]]'' tournaments. The event was first announced on Nintendo of Japan's website on February 23rd, 2018.
