Shine was [[New England]]'s premier tournament series and its largest tournament series from 2016 to 2023, with total entrants count frequently surpassing 1,000 entrants. The series hosted major-level events for all its ''Smash'' events, with several of each game's best players always in attendance; as such, it was often considered the final major ''Smash'' event of the summer, as it takes place at the end of August, although later iterations were smaller for ''Smash 64'' and ''Ultimate''.
 
Despite its success, the Shine tournaments were often run on a deficit.
