This tournament is known for {{Sm|Kage}}'s upsets, in which he double eliminated {{Sm|Mango}} (the player considered the best in the world at the time), defeating him 2-0 in winners' quarters and 2-1 in losers' semis. {{Sm|Dr. PeePee}} also became known for his {{SSBM|Falco}} placing higher than Mango's at this tournament. Finally, this tournament also marked {{Sm|Hungrybox}}'s first win at a national.
