'''Glitch''' is a tournament series hosted by {{Sm|Tantalus}} and [[Xanadu|Xanadu Games]] in Laurel, Maryland. The series began as a regional for {{forwiiu}}, but grew larger following the release of ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' and eventually became one of the largest ''Smash'' tournament series on the East Coast. Outside of the main events, the series also holds unconventional side events at every tournament, much like how glitches are unconventional. Some of the events included are low tier singles, mid tier singles, [[Character customization|custom]] singles, [[8-Player Smash|triples]], ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'' singles, ''[[arms:ARMS (game)|ARMS]]'' singles, [[amiibo]] singles, speedrun brackets, [[Squad Strike]], and [[Stage Morph|Morph]]-[[Final Smash Meter|Meter]].

==History==
===2016-18: ''[[Super Smash Bros. 4]]''===

The first {{Trn|Glitch}} tournament will happen on March 12th, 2016, and will be hosted by [[Tantalus]] and [[VGBC|VGBootCamp]]. It will solely focus on {{forwiiu}} singles and doubles, but it will also start the trend of Glitch tournaments having unique side events, in the case being low tier singles (which followed the first ''Smash 4'' tier list shown by {{Sm|VoiD}} and {{Sm|Snow}} using {{SSB4|Mewtwo}} and {{SSB4|Lucina}}, both of which being ranked much higher in later iterations) and custom singles. Glitch will also be the largest Glitch ''Smash 4'' tournament, being the only one to have over 200 attendees.

{{Trn|Glitch 2}} will start a side event for ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'' singles, start hosting triples as a side event, and continued to host custom and low tier singles (this time following the second iteration of ''Smash 4'''s tier list).

{{Trn|Glitch 3}} will keep ''Brawl'' singles, but many of the other side events were overhauled: keeping triples, removing custom singles, changing low tier singles to mid tier singles, and added amiibo singles, the former in which is currently the final time this event was hosted at a Glitch tournament. This will be the last Glitch tournament hosted by VGBootCamp until Glitch 7. The next three Glitch tournaments will be directed by [[Tournament:Smash @ Xanadu|Xanadu Games]], which was also the venue every Glitch tournament takes place in.

{{Trn|Glitch 4}} will drop ''Brawl'' singles, but bought back custom singles and keep amiibo singles as side events. 

{{Trn|Glitch 5}} currently has the lowest amount of attendees of all entries, with only 122, and the only Glitch entry to have no additional ''Smash 4'' side events, instead being replaced with speedrun brackets and  ''[[arms:ARMS (game)|ARMS]]'' singles. This is so far the last Glitch tournament to primarily focus on ''Smash 4'' as [[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]] will later be released nearly three months later, and all future entries in Glitch will use that installment.

===2019-present: Beginning of ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' at Glitch===

With the release of ''Ultimate'', the Glitch series switched its focus to that game, completely abandoning ''[[Smash 4]]''. The attendance for {{Trn|Glitch 6}} singles was noticeably larger compared to the previous five, with a staggering 551 attendees (a 429 increase from Glitch 5). There were two side events, both being completely unique to Ultimate: [[Squad Strike]] and Morph-Meter. 

{{Trn|Glitch 7 - Minus World}} had a slight increase in attendees and is now the largest Glitch tournament to date. Squad Strike remained one of the two side events of the tournament and Morph-Meter was replaced with amiibo singles. This tournament was mainly themed around the [[Mario (universe)|Super Mario]] franchise: the "Minus World" part of its name was a reference to "World -1", a infamous glitch that appeared in ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' and its banner was themed after ''[[Super Mario World]]''. However, there was controversy involving its demotion from S-Tier to A-Tier. This event, commonly dubbed as "GlitchGate", was the result of {{Sm|Stroder}}'s disqualification from the tournament, causing Glitch 7 to go below the typical 2,400 point threshold of an S-Tier. Many people were confused by the decision, as {{Trn|MomoCon 2019}} remained an S-Tier despite having over 50 smashers dropping out of the tournament.
