'''GT-X 2017''', officially '''GameTyrant Expo 2017''', is the first of the series, a fighting game tournament tentatively held in Salt Lake City, Utah, organized by GameTyrant.  
 
The tournament was notable for its large pot prize of $30,000 for both ''Melee'' and ''Smash 4'', which was among some of the largest pots in either game at the time. GameTyrant Expo was also very ambitious for its first year, hoping to have successively larger pot prizes in future years. Many players were encouraged to attend despite its remote location and its low experience, as the new tournament series was expected to be key to the growth of competitive ''Super Smash Bros.'' in general.
