The circuit started on March 8, 2008 at 2500 GameStop locations across the United States at 10:00 pm local time. The winner of each location would then participate in a series of district tournaments, the winners of this advancing to regional tournament, and finally the remaining top eight advancing to the semi-finals and finals in San Jose, California. The grand prize was a television set, a [[Wii]] console and select accessories, an entire Wii software library, and $5000 in cash. ==Ruleset==
The first three rounds used a single elimination format, while round four used a double elimination format. Every match was a 1v1 battle. Each player was only allowed to play with the base roster and no unlockable characters.

*Due to a general distaste with the official rules, many GameStop tournament organizers allegedly created alternative rulesets.
