It was the fourth-largest ''Smash 64'' tournament in the United States with 96 entrants, and the third-largest ''Brawl'' tournament of all time with 338 entrants. Like the preceding Apex tournaments, Apex 2013 had a fair amount of international competition.

The most notable event at this tournament was {{Sm|Salem}} coming out of nowhere to win ''Brawl'' singles using only {{SSBB|Zero Suit Samus}}. Not only had he won one of the largest ''Brawl'' tournaments using a character that wasn't top tier, but Salem had not even won any of the [[Tristate Area|Tristate]] local tournaments he had attended earlier. The results of this tournament, along with Salem's demonstration of Zero Suit Samus' techniques, caused her to rise up on [[Eighth tier list (SSBB)|the next tier list]] and made many players think that she belongs in the top tier. {{Sm|Kikoushi}} also won the ''Smash 64'' singles tournament, defeating {{Sm|Isai}} in grand finals, and {{Sm|Armada}} became the first player to win Apex more than once, winning ''Melee'' singles in both {{Trn|Apex 2012}} and Apex 2013.
