In ''Real Bout Fatal Fury'', Terry and his friends fight their way through the new King of Fighters tournament, once again in South Town. Terry eventually progresses to the final battle in the tournament, a bout against Geese. At the end of the fight, Geese is knocked off the edge of a high rise once again, but Terry grabs hold of him before he can fall any further. Geese, in a seeming act of egotism, refuses Terry's help and knocks his hand away, plummeting to what is believed to be his permanent death. In the aftermath of the tournament, Terry comes across a boy named Rock Howard, Geese's son, who lost his mother after Geese abandoned them and left his wife to die in illness. Terry takes Rock in as a surrogate son, raising him as a means to put the feud between him and Geese behind, and teaches him how to fight on the streets of South Town and during his travels around the world. | In ''Real Bout Fatal Fury'', Terry and his friends fight their way through the new King of Fighters tournament, once again in South Town. Several years later in ''Garou: Mark of the Wolves'', Terry is the only veteran fighter who participates in the King of Fighters Maximum Mayhem tournament, which is held by Rock's uncle, Kain R. Heinlein, in the neighbouring Second South Town. Though Terry realizes the tournament is meant to lure Rock into Kain's control, Terry reluctantly accepts Rock's decision to enter the tournament, driven by Kain's claim that his sister — Rock's mother — is alive. Two years later, in ''Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves'', Terry and others receive invitations for a new King of Fighters tournament, with Geese's legacy as the prize. Knowing Rock's stake in this, Terry enters the tournament to check on him. Arriving at Geese Tower for the final match against Rock, Terry loses, but learns that he and Kain, with the assistance of Geese's old right-hand man Billy Kane, were able to locate Rock's mother, Marie Heinlein, who had been held hostage by rival crime lord Mr. Big (one of the antagonists of the ''Art of Fighting'' series) in return for the items of Geese's legacy, which include the Jin Scrolls. During the reunion, Marie ends up being injured from an assault by bar bouncer Jack Turner against Big, which causes Rock to react with anger. His emotions resonate with the Jin Scrolls, which are cursed such that those descended from the ancient Jin brothers can be possessed by their ancestors. Through the combined efforts of Terry in the real world, and Rock fighting from the inside as he learns the truth surrounding the scrolls and Geese's reasons for abandoning him and his mother, Rock is brought back to normal. But in a situation that nearly mirrors Geese's demise, the final blow sends Rock crashing through the railing surrounding the top of Geese Tower, whereupon he lets go of Terry's hand so he will fall to his death, not wanting to be a burden to him. However, this time, Terry jumps after Rock to grab him again, exhorting him not to give up so easily, both only saved through Billy's intervention. Terry then leaves Rock to be reunited with Marie while the scrolls are destroyed, and decides to leave South Town, concluding that Rock is now grown up enough to walk his own path. As he leaves the city by train, Rock follows on his motorbike, thanking Terry for everything. Terry throws his old cap to Rock, with the promise to spar again sometime in the future. | Through the combined efforts of Terry in the real world, and Rock fighting from the inside as he learns the truth surrounding the scrolls and Geese's reasons for abandoning him and his mother, Rock is brought back to normal.
