Talk:Mushroom Platform

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

I suppose I should've seen the deletion tag coming. The reason I oppose its deletion is because it is in Super Smash Bros. and a part of more than one Mario-themed stage. And the origin section allows one to see how Mushroom Platforms worked, also mirroring the development process from when developers add details, whether in the background or as interactable elements. At the end of the day, though, it's just a platform. There's nothing special to it other than being a design that represents the Mario series. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 02:16, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, though consider how many platforms the Super Mario Wiki has for articles, most virtually identical in function to one another, while SmashWiki has it all merged into a single Platform page. Why is that? Conker the Squirrel (talk) 03:27, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
Because we are SmashWiki and they are MarioWiki. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 03:35, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
I'm not saying I'd take major issue if this page gets deleted (or turned into a disambig), as there's other places it can go (and I waived my original contributions as public domain to easily plug in elsewhere as needed because I foresaw some my content like this being flagged for deletion). But I just feel that if every single platform on this wiki is merged into a single page (or non-SSB ones are deleted), it'd be too congested, and there's more to SSB than just stages, items, tournaments, and fighters. We already have all spirits in Ultimate merged into a single page. Or a list of trophies by series and Smash title. If every trophy or spirit gets their own page, then it will just be multiple pages with very little in it, which at that point it would be more efficient and more useful to have them merged into a single page.
Upon looking at the Mario platforms, another thing I would bring up is that many platforms there are either unique in their own right or are characters on their own. They basically have different functionalities with each other. All platforms in Smash are just that: platforms. They may move, or can't be passed through, but at the end of the day their purpose is just to be a platform, and I don't see a need to document every single platform that exists in Smash if that's the only purpose they serve. This can also be seen on MarioWiki, where the generic platforms like Mienai Ashiba only have a couple of lines and an image, which goes back to my point in it being uninteresting on its own. So you think that it's overboard for wikis in general to have that many articles? Conker the Squirrel (talk) 03:49, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
That's not the point I'm trying to make here. If there's enough information for a page to have an article, then it should have one. If you can basically just summarize it in a couple of sentences, then it shouldn't. Right now this page can just be summarized as "it's based off mushroom platforms in the Mario games and appear in these stages." CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 03:56, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
What about the information about the discrepancy between the Mushroom Platform designs in the SSB stage and then the info about the Mushroom Platforms in Golden Plains being usable by fighters for the first time. Would that mean making disambig to the respective stage's origin sections? Conker the Squirrel (talk) 03:58, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
Still not much of note since it's just a design choice to represent the Mario universe, whether a background element or not. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 03:59, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
Well, it got rectified between the original SSB one to the SSBU remake where the assets are closer to those in the original Super Mario Bros., so I'd imagine there was some form of the developers paying attention to even the minor details. Personally I want to add something along the lines of "if the player (typically a speedrunner) makes it far enough in the Super Mario Bros. masterpiece in Brawl or Wii U before time runs out, they can first see Mushroom Platforms in World 4-2." Makes it fun and flavorful. Conker the Squirrel (talk) 04:05, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
This is starting to get hyperspecific and off-topic. Are we going to say the texture of the Magicant clouds deserve its own page because it was updated to look more like a cloud? The trivia is also irrelevant to Smash. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 04:11, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
I suppose I wouldn't mind that, but this isn't my wiki. End of the day, the community decides what to do with this page. I said I oppose this article's deletion, and I guess there's not much left for me to say beyond that. Conker the Squirrel (talk) 04:20, August 26, 2026 (UTC)
