I suppose it is good to be consistent, and I won't edit the articles, but I really think this Lucario to be male. His "voice" is masculine (not just voice ACTOR, mind you, as Pikachu, widely considered to be male, is voiced by a woman, as well as Ash himself, among others), and even the Cresselia trophy, which mentions they are always female, still refuses to use gender-specific pronouns, so you can't really judge by that. Plus most Pokemon trophies are about the species in general, not a specific member. - Gargomon251 07:16, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Then why did you jump all over me about Jigglypuff? Jigglypuff has a feminine voice. huntercrunch

:About as feminine as Pikachu's. We're not talking Gardevoir here. Jigglypuff's voice is too high...or something...to really be sure. Maybe it's the timbre or some term, but it just doesn't sound like a normal person so it's hard to judge. Compare Munchlax. And for the record, I'm not changing anything, so don't get carried away. - Gargomon251 07:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

One thing to consider is Jiggly's Japanese voice. I'm sure they're both the same characters, but the "highness" of her voice is the result of 4kid's terrible VAs -_- huntercrunch
::Well from my experience, "Purin" didn't sound much different, but that's beside the point. We're not talking about that.- Gargomon251 07:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
While I respect your opinions, I think the best choice on this matter is to wait until Nintindo or a strategy guide confirms the Pokemon(s) genders. huntercrunch
The Codec conversations have Mei Ling referring to Lucario as male. Does that prove it? Supportmage 18:12, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Aparently Carbonkirby (did I get that right?) disagrees. And by the way, Lucario is not rare or ledgendary!! 216.152.186.225 02:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
: You need to calm down. I just looked it on pokemon wiki and they even refer to lucario as an it, i'd call it a guy but i don't make the rules around here. Carbonkirby 02:37, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
:: Okay. I thought you were one of those guys who is unable to change his thoughts on anything. Sorry. 216.152.186.225 02:40, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
The fact is, Lucario simply cannot be considered "he" because Pokémon don't have genders. Granted, they can have sexes, but do keep in mind that gender and sex are not necessarily the same. By definition, "sex" refers to physical aspects (i.e. reproductive organs), "gender" is how one is interpreted by society. Nintendo's official stance is Pokémon do not have genders no matter what their sexes may be. I know, Snake's Codec calls Lucario a "he". It actually also calls Lucario a "he" in the description for Event 25 as well. I honestly think those were mistakes that were overlooked in the rush to get the game out in time. I suspect they'll be changed to "it" for the PAL versions. Besides, even if the particular Lucario in Brawl is a "he", it still doesn't belong on this page because this article is about Lucario in general, not the one in Brawl anyway.--Bman87301 03:43, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
:I thought the main reasons pokemon were called "it" were:
*Some pokemon have no sexual dimorphism (almost all of them before DP.)
*It's easier to say "it" for fill-in-the-blanks type functions in the game, such as the pokemon fan clubs etc.
*The pokemon in Smash are supposed to represent a species, not any specific pokemon. Sort of like how "Pokemon Trainer" doesn't have a given name.

With the exception of maybe the last one (the Lucario in Brawl is almost certainly meant to represent the one from the movie),
those reasons  most likely are why Nintendo ultimately chose their gender-neutrality policy for the franchise. Regardless of the reasons, it is their official stance nevertheless. With the exception of the two instances in Brawl, all official Nintendo materials (such as their strategy guides and the Smash Bros. DOJO!! site) continue to refer to Lucario (and all other Pokémon) as "it". In order to stay consistent and professional-looking we have to refer to them the same way (no matter how ridiculous it may be at times). --Bman87301 14:21, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
So this arguement is over right? Pokemon are its here despite what the sound or act like. I'm all for Lucario being called a guy but again I don't make the rules here, and honestly this isn't really worth the commontion it is causing. Carbonkirby 15:59, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
I agree. This has clearly been settled. There's no need for further discussion on the subject, especially on this page since it's about the Lucario species and not Lucario (SSBB), whose gender dispute sparked this debate in the first place anyways. --Bman87301 16:57, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

"Lucario is the most recently-debuted character in the Super Smash Bros series."
Can you add more information about this? ::I see now that it was just the way it was worded that threw me off; I guess I'm not used to thinking of the word "debuted" as meaning "revealed." Sorry about this. == Sword and Shield ==
The bit in trivia about Lucario's inclusion in Sword and Shield is actually not that notable, as Squirtle, Ivysaur, Mewtwo, and Incineroar are found in the game's coding and could still be transferred via Pokemon HOME or obtained in Max Raid Battles. This makes Jigglypuff and Greninja the only ones to not appear in the base game. (173.63.50.61 21:07, June 9, 2020 (EDT))
