:The definition of effect on this page states that its "the term used to refer to what kind of elemental properties an attack applies to what it hits." Ink is mostly an attribute of Inkling as far as I know, sonce it really doesn't have elemental properties. It was incorrect to have added ink in the first place (which was done pre-release). It made sense based on history, but once the game came out it was disproved. == Possible effects ==

I believe there are two new effects in ''Ultimate'' that are missing from this list, but I don't have the ability to check the game data to confirm. Apparently it was possible to confirm that [[ink]] is not an effect, so hopefully the same can be done with these two.
*The [[Ramblin' Evil Mushroom]] inflicts a "Mushroom" status on the target, in a very similar manner to the [[Lip's Stick]] and the [[flower]] effect.
*{{SSBU|Joker}}'s [[Eiha]] and [[Eigaon]] inflict a status on the target (let's call it "Cursed") that inflicts damage over time, like the flower and poison effects, but has a completely different appearance to them. (Additionally, it is not blocked by Poison Immunity and stacks with the flower effect, so cannot be either one of the existing statuses.) It does look quite similar to the [[darkness]] effect, however.

There is an implication that only moves with a corresponding effect can inflict a given status condition, so it follows that these two new status conditions would require a corresponding effect. :Indeed, the reason it's called "effect" is because at the time (Brawl) there was a 1:1 correspondance between the property and statuses being applied. (Ink is the first case where this relationship was broken.) Unfortunately I can't hard-confirm myself yet. ::I would guess that that is related to the fact that some of the Inkling's moves are required to have an effect other than ink, such as the Splat Roller having the bury effect.
::Which on that note, I believe there was some skepticism about poison being an effect. I don't have the Poisoned Smash Adventure Skill at the moment, but there are several smash attacks that necessarily have other effects (e.g. ZSS's down smash, Villager's down smash), so I doubt it replaces the effect on the smash attack. Likewise, [[Yuri Kozukata]] inflicts both poison and paralysis simultaneously. I've found some effects for ''Smash 4'' and ''Ultimate'' that are currently undocumented on the wiki. Some were found in the [https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rubendal/SSBU-Dump-Scripts/master/ParamLabels.csv param labels], so they may not be found on fighters. Smash 4 effects I used the names from [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FgOsGYfTD4nQo4jFGJ22nz5baU1xihT5lreNinY5nNQ/edit#gid=571690031 here] and Ultimate's I used the names for the [https://rubendal.github.io/ssbu/#/ScriptSearch script search], minus 'collision_attr'.

Smash 4+:
Adhesion or _stop: Found only on [[Mega Man]]'s [[Crash Bomber]]'s sticking hitbox. Crumple or _saving: [[Ryu]]/[[Ken]]'s [[Focus Attack]]; probably causes the [[Crumple]] status but isn't found on [[Ridley]]'s [[Skewer]]. Disable or _bind_extra: [[Mewtwo]]'s [[Disable]]; not sure how different it is from [[Stun (effect)|Stun]]. Pin or _pierce: [[Corrin]]'s [[Dragon Lunge]]. Bullet Arts or _normal_bullet: [[Bayonetta]]'s [[Bullet Arts]].

Ultimate:

:It should be noted that the primary purpose of effects is to produce visuals on hit that complement the theme of the attack. Most effects don't actually do anything outside of that. The saving effect isn't what causes crumpling, and that can easily be seen by the fact that the uncharged version uses the same effect but doesn't cause crumpling. The attack module flag attached to the hitboxes do it, and Ridley's Skewer uses a throw work module that applies the same effect. On hit, all levels of Focus Attack produce additional black ink-flame visuals, and that is what the saving effect does. Don't assume that the effect is responsible for the special properties of a move, unless there are no special flags attached to the hitboxes (such as with stop). On another note: noamal is a known bug. You'll notice that if you land the far hit of G&W's down smash on aerial or downed opponents, no hit effect will be produced. ::That makes sense, I forgot Focus Attack does that. I don't see any attack modules on Hero's unique effects that would cause sleep, death, etc., so I think those are tied to their actions. All the others seem to be just visual. :The small sparks appear to be a new effect and the large sparks (usually heavier attacks like FSmash, FTilt, and Dash) are coded as "normal" ([https://rubendal.github.io/ssbu/#/Character/Kazuya], see Attack11 and AttackDash respectively), even though "normal" looks nothing like what appears other than a "ring of air" that is larger and glowing. I noticed that there is no article for Sora’s Keyblade effect. I know it’s purely aesthetic, but other character-specific cosmetic effects like Dedede, Sparks, or Chain also have their own articles. == Lots of missing effects, clarification on Sora ==

Firstly, forgive me if this isn't formatted well- this is my first time submitting to a Wiki.

I'm a SSBU modder and a while back I spent some time creating a list of every effect used in the game, you can view it [https://github.com/LilyLavender/ssbu-mod-workshop/blob/main/episode03/CollisionAttributeList.md here]. It reveals a few things, mainly that most effects don't have the same name internally that they do in ssbwiki, such as collision_attr_sting_flash just being called "Scintilla". There's a lot more effects also, such as fist_down being split into fist_down1, 2, and 3, deep_sleep, deathball, etc. I would make some changes to account for all of this but I don't have a lot of information right now and don't really have the time to research at the moment, nor am I the biggest fan of contributing to Wikis. 

Additionally, Sora's hit effects aren't actually coded as hit effects. There's an internal function I'm looking into right now that presumably spawns the star effects on top of cutup effects for Sora only, so when Sora uses cutup the stars (referred to as trail_hit_cut_s and trail_hit_cut_m) appear too. Here's the function- note that it's a bit mangled still as I'm working on translating it and that I'm not sure where exactly it runs or what the parameters are.

:Some of these differences can be explained by us making some simplifications and compromises for ease of understanding, where the exact technical details are more suited for a more specific page (either the effect's page, or the page of the only move that uses it). This can include choosing more "natural" names for newer effects than the more "internal" names we see in the scripts, depending on the context.
