A similar animation to Spinning Kong can be found in ''Donkey Kong Land'', as whenever Diddy Kong is KO'd, Donkey Kong will rise to the screen in the shape of a tornado, similar to this move. While he doesn't stretch his arms in a similar manner to this move, this is the only instance of Donkey Kong spinning horizontally prior to the release of ''Super Smash Bros.''

Donkey Kong himself would later appear in ''{{s|mariowiki|Donkey Kong Bananza}}'' with a spin attack move that is highly similar visually to Spinning Kong, specifically Chopper Kong from ''Super Smash Bros. 4''. A key difference is that it is triggered by the player rotating the control stick in place while grounded, causing Donkey Kong to curl up into a roll position and spin around in place, and pressing the jump button triggers the attack animation that resembles aerial Spinning Kong, which also slowly decreases his fall speed as he spins, similarly to the {{s|mariowiki|Spin Jump}} from various ''Super Mario Bros.'' games such as ''Super Mario 3D World''.
