In ''Dig Dug'', Pookas idly walk around underground tunnels. They are capable of phasing through the terrain in order to get closer to the protagonist, Taizo Hori; in this intangible state, only the Pookas' goggles are visible. Taizo Hori can defeat Pookas by pumping them with air, causing them to inflate until they eventually burst. When the level is almost complete, the last Pooka standing will retreat and Hori will have to track them down as they do so for extra points.
