==Origin==
Munchlax is the baby form of [[Snorlax]], and was the very first {{s|bulbapedia|Generation IV}} Pokémon ever publicly revealed, making appearances in several ''Pokémon'' spin-off games and in the anime even before its playable debut in the main-series games ''{{s|bulbapedia|Pokémon Diamond and Pearl}}''. Munchlax is categorized within the Pokédex at #446 as the "Big Eater Pokémon". It evolves into Snorlax when leveled up with high friendship. Munchlax is described as the "Big Eater" Pokémon, and all of its Pokédex entries deal with its eating habits.

Its "move" in ''Brawl'', {{iw|bulbapedia|Pickup|ability}}, is one of its possible abilities in the Pokémon games: a Pokémon with it might find an item after a battle, and, since {{s|bulbapedia|Generation V}}, can pick up items discarded by other Pokémon during a battle.

Munchlax is one of the Pokémon that appears out of a Poké Ball. When summoned it wanders aimlessly around the stage, eating any items it finds excluding [[Poké Ball]]s, [[Smash Balls]], and collectibles ([[trophies]], [[CD]]s, and [[sticker]]s). If there aren't any items around for it to gobble up, Munchlax is effectively useless, much like [[Goldeen]].

* The Munchlax evolution family is one of three to have its entire family appear in one ''Smash'' game. The others are the [[Pichu]] evolution family, as, in ''Ultimate'', Pichu and Pikachu are playable characters, with Alolan [[Raichu]] appearing as a [[Poké Ball]] summon, and the {{pkmn|Riolu}} evolution family, as Riolu appears as a trophy in ''Brawl'', where [[Lucario]] debuted as a fighter.
** Its evolutionary line is also the only one in the series to have more than one summonable Pokémon in the same game, as well as the only one where none of them are playable.
* Munchlax is the first [[Poké Ball]] Pokémon that uses an ability instead of a move.
* On [[Rumble Falls]], Munchlax is unable to eat items thrown by players. It will chase after them, but stop and vibrate in place instead of eating the item.
* The Munchlax trophy incorrectly states that its first video game appearance was in ''{{s|bulbapedia|Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Versions}}'' whereas it was in ''{{s|bulbapedia|Pokémon Dash}}''.
