The '''Melee Panda Global Rankings''', or '''MPGR''', was a [[power ranking]] done by [[Team:Panda|PGStats]] and headed by {{Sm|PracticalTAS}} that ranked the top 100 players for ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. The MPGR was a successor to the [[SSBMRank]] that had handled the ''Melee'' power rankings since 2013. Despite this change, the ranking process was identical to how it worked previously, with the rankings being panel-based and featuring two rankings each year: a 50-player ranking to mark the half-way point of the year, and a whole-year ranking released in early January of the following year. 

Due to the [[COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on competitive Smash|COVID-19 pandemic]], the MPGR was not made for 2020 and 2021, and [[MPGR Summer 2022]] was for North America only. For 2021, a pseudo-ranking in the form of a tier list called [[MPGRContenders]] was made. 

Following the dissolution of PGStats due to controversies surrounding Panda, as well as PracticalTAS passing the rankings down to {{Sm|wheat}},<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/PracticalTAS/status/1599946396039536640|title=PracticalTAS passing stewardship of the rankings to wheat}}</ref> the rankings reverted back to the SSBMRank moniker.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/GimmeDatWheat/status/1603910069275467779|title=Last major of the 2022 season, where wheat called the rankings "SSBMRank"}}</ref>

=Process=

Multiple top players, community leaders, tournament seeders, and regional power rankers, are all chosen to be panelists for the MPGR. Panelists are then asked to rate players based on the following: <br>
“Based on quality and quantity of results in the ranking period, rate each player on a scale of 1 to 10. A tournament is held every weekend during the ranking period, and all players on the list are able to attend every event. Over the course of the season, who performs the best? You may give the benefit of the doubt to players who attended more events during the ranking period if you so choose.” <br>
Ballot scoring is normalized between each panelist and each player's final score was calculated as a weighted average, with a higher weight given to scores closer to the interquartile mean of the total scores.
