==Origin==
Klaptraps are {{iw|mariowiki|Kremling}}s who debuted in ''{{iw|mariowiki|Donkey Kong Country}}''. They damage [[Donkey Kong]] and [[Diddy Kong]] by biting them. They appear in a variety of colors: blue, red, purple, and green. Klaptraps later appears in ''{{iw|mariowiki|Donkey Kong 64}}'' with a similar role. Larger Klaptraps also appear in the game. Klaptraps are among the smallest varieties of the Kremlings and are one of the few that are entirely quadrupedal. The only similar varieties are the {{iw|mariowiki|Klampon}}s and {{iw|mariowiki|Krimp}}s, as well as the {{iw|mariowiki|Snapjaw}}s, which are technically not Kremlings.

Klaptrap appears on the [[Jungle Japes]] and [[Kongo Falls|Kongo Jungle]] stages, leaping out of the water to bite opponents. Klaptraps appear in two different colors:

*Orange Klaptraps appear in Kongo Jungle. They jump out from the waterfall near the edges of the stone ledge and near the [[Barrel Cannon]]s. If a character makes contact with a Klaptrap, they will take damage. Very rarely a Klaptrap will get stuck in the Barrel Cannon, and characters cannot use the Barrel Cannon while one is inside of it; they instead only take damage from contact with that Klaptrap.
*Blue Klaptraps appear in Jungle Japes. They jump between the opening on either side of the middle section of the stage. If a character makes contact with a Klaptrap, they will take 30% damage and be [[spike]]d, sending characters straight into Jungle Japes' torrential waters. They essentially serve as [[one-hit KO]]s in ''Melee''. Characters holding on to a [[ledge]] are also vulnerable to a Klaptrap. They appear every 7-18 seconds (counting the 6 seconds it takes for the to go from one side to the other).

Klaptraps do not come out of [[container]]s like other enemies do. They can however be used as regular [[item]]s in the [[TEST]] stage using an [[Action Replay]] or other hacking device. Klaptraps are invulnerable and cannot be damaged, unlike other enemies.

Like in ''Melee'', Klaptrap reprises its role as a stage hazard on the Jungle Japes stage. Instead of randomly appearing, they now consistently appear every 10 seconds. If a character makes contact with a Klaptrap, they will be [[meteor smash]]ed. It can no longer [[one-hit KO]] like in the previous game (in part due to the newly introduced [[swimming]] greatly reducing downward speed), but it still deals a lot of damage and knockback.

Like in ''Melee'' and ''Brawl'', Klaptrap reprises its role as a stage hazard on the Jungle Japes stage. Their appearance cycle was reverted to 7-18 seconds like in ''Melee'' instead of every 10 seconds in ''Brawl''. Like in ''Brawl'' it cannot [[one-hit KO]], but it still does high knockback and [[swimming]] does not exist in ''for Nintendo 3DS'', making it likely to result in a KO. Its design was updated to be smoother, making it resemble its official artwork more closely.

Klaptraps appears in ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'' as an [[Assist Trophy]]. Once summoned, they run around the stage and latch onto any opponent they touch. Once latched, they bite down, doing repetitive damage similar to the [[Fan]]. As with most Assist Trophies in Ultimate, they can be KO'd. [[Training Mode]] describes them as: ''Leaps up on opponents and bites down with sharp fangs.''

Klaptrap has a spawn chance of {{Fractions|38|2086}}. They cannot be summoned on the following stages in a standard versus match (applies only to the base form unless noted otherwise):

Klaptrap appears as an Advanced-class [[primary spirit]]. It is obtained by completing {{SSBU|Classic Mode}}'s Bonus Game as {{SSBU|King K. Rool}} within 45 seconds.

Klaptrap's Spirit Battle uses a blue [[Tiny]] King K. Rool puppet fighter and is fought on [[Kongo Jungle]]. Klaptrap appears as a hostile Assist Trophy for the fight.

*In ''Brawl'', Klaptrap's eye texture is not centered properly, placing it halfway on the edge of its eye.
*Klaptrap's render from ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'' closely resembles its official art from ''Donkey Kong Country'', but mirrored.
*When Klaptrap is attacked in ''Ultimate'', it makes the same sound as it did when defeated in ''Donkey Kong Country''. This sound was done by Chris Sutherland, making it the only ''Donkey Kong'' character in ''Ultimate'' known to have a specific voice actor. However, Sutherland was not credited for this sound clip, but would later be credited as [[Banjo]] and [[Kazooie]].
**It is also the only Assist Trophy with a voice actor to not be present in the Sound Test.
