Button mashing reduces grab time by 6 frames per input in Melee, and 8 frames per input from Brawl onward (14.4 for buttons in Smash 4 and Ultimate, but they cannot be inputted as quickly as stick inputs). However, the grab time from Brawl onward cannot be lower than 19 frames, allowing certain characters to always pummel the opponent at least once and throw them before they can escape. In Ultimate, grabbed characters flash yellow when they are close to escaping (180 frames left or less, equal to 3 seconds).

Other
For when grabbing an opponent using a normal grab such as Mario or Link, The part you grab depends on the character. For Male Characters, basic characters are often grabbed around the chest, and taller characters such as Ryu (Ken) and Simon (Richter) are often grabbed around the wrists. By the way, Non-human Male Characters such as Donkey Kong and Sonic are also sometimes grabbed by the chest. Since, Joker is a tall, voluptuous man, it turns out that he grabs his wrist instead of his chest. And, Corrin and Byleth are male by default, and the other is female, but since we created him as a tall man, both are designed to be grabbed by his wrist. In particular, it is well known that Sephiroth and Kazuya can be seen shirtless in addition to their clothed forms, so the part to be grabbed is the wrist. On the other hand, For Female Characters often have their wrists grabbed, but if they are created using an Alternate costume or Clone, if they grab the default Male Character's chest, the Female Character's chest will also be grabbed. Even if the default is Male and the other is Female, Pikachu, Villager, Robin and Bowser Jr. (Koopalings) will grab you by the chest regardless of Gender. Lucina is a clone of Marth, so she gets grabbed around the chest. And, the Ice Climbers are Male and Female, but both are petite, so they get grabbed around the chest. Both figures are Female, but in Zero Suit Samus and Zelda, her wrists are grabbed, while in Samus and Sheik, her chest is grabbed, and this is because she is hiding her true identity. And, Although it is unrelated to Dark Samus, it is treated as a clone of Samus, so it is listed as an exception.
