'''Germany''' is a ''Smash'' region that encompasses the [[wikipedia:Germany|country of the same name]] and consists of sixteen states. It is located in Central Europe, bordering [[Denmark]] to the north, [[Poland]] to the east, [[Austria]] and [[Switzerland]] to the south, and [[Belgium]], [[France]], [[Luxembourg]], and the [[Netherlands]] to the west. Due to its proximity to Austria and Luxembourg especially, as well as all three countries adopting German as its national primary language, Germany's scene often crosses over with those regions. Tournament activity primarily takes place in '''West Germany''' (consisting of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland) and '''North Germany''' (consisting of Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia), though '''South Germany''' (consisting of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria) also features a notable scene.

Germany is often considered one of the strongest ''Smash'' regions in Europe, owing to a long legacy of notable players that have even been ranked globally. The first German player to gain a national spotlight was {{Sm|Ice}}, who was one of Europe's best ''[[Melee]]'' players throughout the 2010s and a regular on the [[SSBMRank]] and [[MPGR]] up until his retirement.
