'''France''' is a ''Smash'' region that encompasses the [[wikipedia:France|country of the same name]]. The region primarily consists of mainland France, and due to its size is sometimes split into four additional regions: '''Central France''' (consisting of Centre-Val de Loire, Île-de-France, and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), '''Northeast France''' (consisting of Hauts-de-France and Grand Est), '''Northwest France''' (consisting of Brittany, Normandy, and Pays de la Loire), and '''Southern France''' (consisting of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitania, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). In addition to the mainland, the scene has active players in its islands and overseas administrations: Corsica, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, and Réunion. The region borders [[Spain]] to the west and [[Belgium]], [[Luxembourg]], [[Germany]], [[Switzerland]], and [[Italy]] to the east. Though large scenes exist thoughout France, tournament activity is the largest in Île-de-France, where the French capital Paris is located, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, where the French city Lyon is located.

Tournament activity existed during the 2000s, with France being the location of Europe's first ''Smash'' major, {{Trn|Epita Smash Arena 2}}. However, it wasn't until ''[[Brawl]]'' when France established itself as a national threat, beginning with {{Trn|Bushido Brawl Impact}}, where {{Sm|Glutonny}} won the event over {{Sm|Ally}}, one of the best ''Brawl'' players in the world at that time. Subsequently, other French players, most notably {{Sm|Leon}}, performed well at many events in both Europe and internationally, leading many to consider France as one of the strongest European regions in ''Brawl''. This reputation continued into the subsequent ''Smash'' games, especially in ''[[Ultimate]]'', where Glutonny was regularly ranked as one of the best ''Ultimate'' players in the world. Tournament activity also remained relatively active throughout the 2010s, with the scene hosting notable ''[[Smash 4]]'' events such as {{Trn|Smashdown World}} and {{Trn|SALT}}. However, the French tournament scene especially exploded in size during ''Ultimate'', hosting a variety of superregional and major events such as the {{Trn|Ultimate WANTED}} series, the {{Trn|King of Fields}} series, {{Trn|COLOSSEL 2022}}, and {{Trn|Tera}}; the latter event is also the largest European ''Smash'' tournament of all time.
