Forum:Articles for fan games?
There's been a wave of many articles being made for fangames. I've been deleting the ones that are obscure and put up only as advertising. However, I'm wondering if we should have articles at all. As we're a Wiki for canon games and information, should fangames even be included? I'm leaning towards deleting all pages for fangames (no matter how well-made nor popular) and keeping this Wiki official. Your thoughts? FyreNWater - (Talk • Contributions ) 01:26, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Wolf O'Donnell is a big supporter for that too. Still, I think Super Smash Flash and its sequel should be the only fan game articles. They're tremendously popular, and popularity is a very important factor. The more popular an article is, the more readers it will attract. Also, Super Smash Flash is one of the most visited articles on here. If we delete a major article like that, we'll lose a great number of readers. That's the whole point of SmashWiki: to create articles with verified information and thus attract more readers. Us losing readers is like a business losing customers, and neither situation is good. Therefore, to maintain a large amount of readers, we should keep very popular and well made articles like Super Smash Flash on this site. - GalaxiaD (talk) 18:04, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm completely for getting rid of the articles for fan games other that Flash, and even then I'm leaning towards getting rid of it. The biggest problem I have with the Super Smash Flash articles is the number of large edits that take place frequently. At least from my viewpoint, it's becoming impossible to tell what's vandalism and what isn't. It's not like we have pages for each of the characters in these games nor do we consider the gameplay or universes for characters that appear only in Flash legitimate material. Maybe we should get rid of these pages and just have one page that has links to the fan games main page. We could protect that page and to get a link put up you would have to clear it with a sysop.
