Yoshi has been confirmed to return as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. 4, revealed during the April 8th, 2014 Nintendo Direct. Yoshi now stands up straighter than before, where he stood hunched over like a dinosaur in the previous Smash games. Yoshi also looks significantly more cartoony and somewhat re-proportioned, more closely resembling his recent appearances in the Mario and Yoshi games.

Differences from previous games

  • Yoshi's tail appears to grow larger for his tail based attacks, apparently increasing their reach.
  • The following moves appear visually unchanged:
  • Back aerial now has a more accentuated final hit.
  • Down aerial's final blow now hits grounded opponents horizontally, which should make the move safer to use on grounded opponents.
  • Egg Throw now has a small rainbow added when Yoshi throws the egg.
