Charizard, known in Japan as Lizardon (リザードン, Rizādon), is a playable character in [[Super Smash Bros. Like Pit and Meta Knight, Charizard is able to glide and jump multiple times in mid-air. However, Charizard's glide is somewhat less maneuverable than those of Pit and Meta Knight.
Attributes
Charizard has a surprisingly fast running speed (tied with Pikachu) for a character it's weight.  However, it has the slowest walking speed in the game, more common for a very heavy character.  Charizard is also one of only three playable characters to posses wings, and as such is gifted with an extra mid-air jump and the ability to glide.  Charizard possesses smash moves quite similar to Bowser in their high strength and lack of speed.  Unlike Bowser, however, Charizard is capable of many moves beyond Flamethrower to rack up damage.  The forward aerial and down throw both use fire to add extra damage before the knockback is applied. The side special, Rock Smash, provides Charizard with an additional power move, along with a disjointed hitbox to block projectiles or be put to many other uses.  Charizard's main weaknesses come from a significant ammount of ending lag after its power moves; if they miss, it is left wide open for a counter-attack.  Additionally, like all three of the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon, Charizard is susceptible to stamina, and must be switched away from after about two minutes of play.

Charizard has a surprisingly fast running speed (tied with Pikachu), though it is true to its speed stat in the Pokémon games. However, it has the slowest walking speed in the game. It is the fifth heaviest character.  Charizard cannot be used by the Pokémon Trainer in Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary until either he or Lucas can defeat it.

Pros and Cons
Pros
*Fast running speed (tied with Pikachu for 7th fastest), and has the fastest running speed for a heavyweight in the game (compared to other heavyweights such as Bowser)
*Two mid-air jumps
*5th heaviest character in the game.
*Can Glide.
*High-damaging, moderate-ranged attacks.
*Rock Smash has huge damage, and can also block projectiles.
*Hard to KO due to heaviness combined with multiple jumps and gilding.
*Down Throw can KO at high percentages.
*Rock Smash can do up to 46% damage if used while someone is using an attack
*Fly gives Super Armor frames.
*Up aerial is quick, can juggle well, and works well with its multiple jumps.
*Good aerial movement.
*Can be switched with Ivysaur or Squirtle as the situation may require.
*Long range, powerful tilt attacks.
*Flamethrower can edge guard.
*Jumping before using Flamethrower racks up lots of damage and stops attacks.
*Rock Smash is great for combos, especially with Flamethrower, and is an excellent KOing move.
*Forward Smash is one of the strongest in the game.
*Arguably the best character in the game for Boss Battles Mode, as Rock Smash does an extremely high amount of damage to bosses, sometimes upwards of 25% of their life meter in a single hit.
<!--REMEMBER: Charizard like all Pokémon, has no gender specified in Smash Bros. Be sure to use "it" instead of "he".-->

Cons
*Slowest walk speed in the game.
*Large target.
*Easy character to combo and juggle.
*Finishers are slow.
*Fly has a linear path and is a somewhat poor recovery move.
*Pokémon Change is easily punishable and is mandatory due to the stamina mechanic.
*Has very small mid-air jumps.
*Glide is not as good as Meta Knight's or Pit's.

Role in the Subspace Emissary

Charizard is first seen flying into a cave by Lucas and the Pokémon Trainer. The Pokémon Trainer recognizes that Charizard is one of the Pokémon he had been trying to catch. Lucas and the Pokémon Trainer head into the cave to attempt to capture Charizard. In the process, they encounter Ivysaur and capture it as well. Unlike many of the characters in the Subspace Emissary, Charizard does not serve any story roles after he is captured. The Pokémon Trainer retains this role and the player is free to choose whichever of the Pokémon s/he wants during play.
