Hi there. My name is Timson, and there are apparently 622,222 of me. That's what, 0.00889% of the world population?

My ''Smash'' story is pretty quirky, unique, and full of ups and downs. Read all about it [[User:Timson622222/History|here]].

== My stance on the games ==

*'''Smash 64''': I greatly dislike this game and the physics engine. Options feel very limited, especially on the defense; I don't want to play a game where one hit guarantees death, with no DI or anything you can do to escape properly executed combos. I also don't want to play a game where shields are horrible, as I rely a lot on my shield game. There also isn't any character I enjoy in ''Smash 64'' other than maybe Kirby, and I never feel like I'm improving or winning with skill when I up tilt spam the foe to oblivion and back. As a spectator, Smash 64 is greatly impressive, but I don't see the fun in auto-comboing an opponent from zero to death myself.
*'''Melee''': ''Melee'' is my favorite official ''Smash'' game due to its depth and the fun factor of about half the cast. I recognize that there are flaws to ''Melee'', such as [[wobbling]], the overly lenient meteor canceling window, and the clone problem (although Falco and Ganondorf are very well-done clones). When it comes down to it, though, there's just more I feel I can do. I'm not held back by the engine as much as in other games, and can experiment with different playstyles and combos to see what works best for me. There are so many movement options in Melee that it separates from being just a game that boils down to "opponent does this, here's the optimal response"- there are many ways to react to a situation; some reward you more but are of higher risk, and some are safer but have low reward, and I greatly appreciate this dynamic as it forces players to deviate away from a typical textbook playstyle to improve. ''Melee'' also has the best 1P modes and event matches overall in my opinion. What really separates ''Melee'' from the rest for me, though, is that there are many more characters who are viable, are fun and dynamic to play, and have significant skill ceilings that always encourage me to go back and experiment with new tactics. I initially couldn't even decide on a main for a year, as I constantly oscillated between Jigglypuff, Fox, Falco, Marth, Peach, and even Mario and Mr. Game & Watch. When I thought I found a character that was for me, I tried playing another and it also resonated with me. Overall, it's a fantastic game and one of my favorite games of all time, right behind some ''Pokémon'' titles and platformers, and I always find myself going back to it.
*'''Brawl''': Brawl was my first personal exposure to ''Smash''. There are significant flaws with it, too, namely the overly defensive gameplay that reduces playstyles down to a textbook, and the dominance of Meta Knight. I don't appreciate the decreased skill ceiling either, which was a detriment to me when I was first trying to play competitively. However, I still find it really fun, and it's still one of my favorite games. There are still many advanced things to learn and experiment with, and a lot of characters I find enjoyable to play, such as Marth, Olimar, Falco, and even Meta Knight. I also like how ''Brawl'' forces players to develop more cerebral ability to improve, a skill that can help people get better across the entire ''Smash'' series. The Subspace Emissary, while admittedly a development sink, was a solid and unique 1P mode which I greatly appreciated. Overall, it's flawed in certain aspects, and I still prefer ''Melee'', but ''Brawl'' is a great game in its own right- both competitively and just for the experience.
:*'''Project M''': Since I prefer ''Melee'' to ''Brawl'', but still like both, I naturally find Project M to be the best competitive ''Smash'' experience. With a balanced roster of characters with completely unique offensive and defensive playstyles and movement options akin to ''Melee''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s, as well as a balanced roster of competitive stages (with a good dose of "fun" stages too), the game gets even deeper. Some may criticize the retention of the ''Melee'' top tiers, but I don't have a problem with it, as I main them in ''Melee'' and find it easy to continue maining them in this mod. Project M was actually the catalyst for me to get back into ''Smash'' as a series, so I respect it greatly for that.
:*'''Brawl Minus''': I used to greatly enjoy Minus, even moreso than I did Project M; back then, it was more complete with more characters, and worked better with the ''Brawl'' engine. I also liked its quirky yet unique stage list, and their strange takes on illegal stages such as [[Distant Planet]] and [[New Pork City]]. However, I greatly oppose many of the changes they've been making recently. I think they completely butchered Roy when they added him; I've tried to enjoy him many times, but to no avail. They've also purged many of the fun and unique stages and replaced them with gimmicks, such as the rapidly flipping ''Melee'' Final Destination with obnoxious music. I still like Minus, though clearly not to the extent before, and I greatly prefer Project M nowadays.
:*'''Brawl Plus''': This mod is essentially ''Brawl'' with slightly faster mechanics, which didn't resonate well with me. They failed to fix the majority of problems with ''Brawl'' and added new ones, and after playing for just under an hour, I quickly grew bored of it and moved back to Minus.
*'''Smash 4''': Even though I probably play ''Smash 4'' better than the previous titles (due to greater 1v1 experience with actual people), I actually dislike this game compared to the other titles. After the masterpieces in ''Melee'' and ''Brawl'', I was expecting this game to completely blow them both out of the water, especially after hearing it would cater to players of both. After playing for several weeks, both online and in 1P mode, and failing to find a character I could have fun and succeed with, I was thoroughly disappointed. I also quickly discovered that ''Smash 4'' did not fix many of the problems present in ''Brawl'': the game still rewards defense too much, and has a low skill ceiling with multiple opportunities for plateaus that deter me from wanting to improve in it. It even removes advanced techniques present in ''Brawl'' and adds new problems. When the person with a percent deficit has an advantage, and the pros tell you that the best way to play the game is "not to go for hits when you don't need to" (ergo, avoiding interaction), something's wrong. With Rage, I've felt like I won matches that I didn't deserve to win, and lost matches I didn't deserve to lose. Grabs are also made worse from ''Brawl''; throws send the opponent too far for followups most of the time. While I enjoy the shield game, I also don't want to fully rely on it to win, which is what I'm forced to do in this game due to the decreased shield stun and shield drop lag. I still enjoy playing Sheik, and have more fun with it as a party game with friends, but as far as a competitive and solo experience, it fails to deliver.
