Amsah is a smasher from Amsterdam, Holland of the Netherlands who mains Sheik. He often uses the nickname Nihonjin. He is ranked first on the Dutch Power Rankings and is one of the top European Smashers, possibly the best.
History
Amsah's career in the community has been relatively short, but very turbulent. He entered the scene in march 2005. He registered on Smashboards and saw some videos of Captain Jack. In a legendary post, he claimed not to be impressed by his skills. He attended Dutch Tournament 10 (which participants included Captain Jack), where he was 4-stocked by Captain Jack in friendlies various times (including a 4-stock by CJ's Game & Watch. After this, nobody expected him to show up again.
However, he attended a number of following tournament, in which he already showed an impressive kind of progress. Soon he was able to beat some of the best players of the Dutch Community, including MrSilver, Ivo and Goat. He finished second several times, often being beaten by either Remen or Kirby_Squad. He won his first tournament (JST4) in juli 2005, beating Utto in the finals.
After this, his skill-level skyrocketed and he managed to finish higher than Remen at ATM2 in november 2005, thus claiming the title of best Dutch smasher. However, he didn't actually meet Remen in the tournament, for he was defeated by Helios and Joanna Dark. He finally managed to beat Remen in february 2006, claiming first place at ATM3 and definately establishing himself as the best Dutch smasher.
This however was not the end of Amsah's spectacular improvement. In april 2006 he took on Captain Jack again at XTC3. He lost again, although the beat was not by far as embarrassing as the one at DT10. In the summer of 2006 he traveled to Sweden to face the best Swedish player, Ek (together with Amsah generally considered to be the best European smasher), at RoS3. In a thrilling match in the winners bracket Amsah pulled what is considered by many European smashers to be the most spectacular comeback in the community ever. With a score of 3-3 Ek killed amsah two times on Fountain of Dreams, while getting only 7 percent damage himself. Amsah took one stock of Ek, after which Ek took one of Amsah's stocks again. Subsequently Ek damaged Amsah heavily, almost guaranteeing himself the win. However, Amsah managed to get Ek down to one stock and finally won the match with only one stock and about 150% damage left. This is the origin of the popular European expression 'pulling an Amsah'. Afterwards, Amsah defeated Ek again in the finals and won the tournament.
In december 2006, Amsah again got a chance to meet Captain Jack at JST5. After being defeated by CJ in the winners finals and beating Ek again in the losers finals, Amsah finally managed to beat Captain Jack in the finals, only one and a half year after he claimed not to be impressed by his skills. However, he remains very modest, stating that he does not consider himself to actually be better than Captain Jack. Apparently, his humiliating defeat at DT10 has turned him into a modest guy for the rest of his life.
Currently there seems to be no limit to what Amsah can do or reach. He stated that he has a lot to learn and can still improve. Therefore, a face-off with the best American and Japanese smashers seems inevitable. One smasher the European players would very much like to see face Amsah is PC Chris, since he is extremely popular in Europe. Amsah however seems more keen to battle Ken.
Trivia
- Is a vegetarian.
- Likes to team up with smashers who are far below his own skilllevel. For instance, he teamed up with his own friend Natta, Linkje and Utto's sister Rinda. These people function as 'tanks' for Amsah, giving him lives when he dies.
- He has a T-shirt that says 'Official SSBM whore' on the front and 'n00b' on the back, and nearly always wears it to tournaments.
