"ROY" is a label listed for a package of unfinished programming found within the code of Super Smash Bros. Brawl via hacking the game disc. Because of the name, many speculate it as being proof that Roy from the Japan-only GBA game Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, who also previously appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a playable character, was once planned to return as such in Brawl. However, it is also possible that the data is simply for referential purposes, or it was imported from Melee.

Another possibility is that "Roy" doesn't refer to the Fire Emblem character and instead represents another character by the name of Roy; however, the only plausible possibility would be Roy Campbell of the Metal Gear series.

Of note is that the data for Roy has its own unused fanfare, called "snd_bgm_Z39_FROY". The unused character Mewtwo also has an unused fanfare.
