Template:GscLanguages The Global Smasher Compendium, often abbreviated "GSC," is a utility for Google Earth made for smashers by Simna ibn Sind. It displays locations and info on smashers, venues and tournaments all over the world, and is a popular way for smashers to find other players living nearby.

Mission

The goal of the Global Smasher Compendium is to list all smashers world wide and to bring the members of the Super Smash Bros. community closer together. In short, more smashing for everyone.

Your Global Smasher Compendium Profile

When you join the Global Smasher Compendium a placemark consisting of your alias and a Smash Bros. character icon(of your choice) is added to the 3D Google Earth interface. Your profile appears when the character icon is double clicked and includes all of the info submitted upon joining(In-game info, crew info, and contact info) as well as any additional info you want listed. You may even have pictures of yourself posted in your profile (although this is not required).

History

The Global Smasher Compendium was created in October 2005 as an alpha test for selected smashers. Once 50 players had joined the first beta version was released. At the time when about 90 players had joined, and with a lot of help from Nealdt, the second beta version was released and included a hassle-free automatic update system that is still used today. Currently, the Global Smasher Compendium has over 700 smashers listed world wide and has new ones joining daily.

Google Earth Functions

Find

Using Control+F you can find a specific word amongst the available placemarks. Using this you can search for smashers by name.

Fly To

With this function you can type in the name of a place on Earth and you will be taken there. Using this you will be able to see what smashers are in a specific area.

Zoom

With this function you can zoom in or out to get a better view of a particular area. Many areas have high concentrations of smashers and the only way to see them all without having overlap is to zoom in.

Tilt

This function allows you to view areas from different angles. This is a very nice way to take advantage of Google Earth's 3D Terrain and, in some areas, 3D Buildings.

Directions To/From

This function gives you driving directions from placemark A to placemark B via Google Maps. This allows you to get exact driving directions from one smasher to another.

  4. If you already have Google Earth and simply need the .kml file, you can download the file here.

How to Join

To join you must send your main character, address, city, state/country, crew name(if in one), gamer alias(name at SWF, IGN, GFAQs, or whatever name you are known by online), and some form of online contact information(AIM/MSN/email/whatever) to Simna ibn Sind.
If you would like a picture of yourself in your GSC Profile then send a link to the image or the image itself to Simna as well. Picture restrictions may apply.

Events

As well as smashers, the Global Smasher Compendium also lists venues for tournaments and smashfests.

Venues

These placemarks represent locations of tournaments not being held at a smasher's home, locations that hold regular tournaments, and locations that have a Super Smash Bros. game available for casual play such as game lounges and LAN centers.

Home Tournaments

These are tournaments held at a smasher's home. Rather than having a new placemark, these ones will be attached to that smasher's placemark info which can be accessed by clicking on their character icon. Smashfests at a smasher's home will be listed the same way.

Adding a Venue, Tournament, or Smashfest

To add a venue or tournament(home tournaments included) to the Global Smasher Compendium send the name of the event, the name of the venue, the date of the event(if it is a tournament or smashfest), and the address of the venue as well as hyperlinks to any information on the tournament(such as the rules and prizes for the tournament) to Simna. Links may include tournament topics in forums such as Smash World Forums, tournament info on non-forum webpages, and the homepages of venues where the tournaments are located. Please specify if the event you are adding is a mutli-event(monthly, biweekly, weekly, etc.) or a single event.
