Articuno first appeared in Pokemon Blue. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Articuno appears out of the pokeball and gets ice cold, so that anyone who touches it (except the person who released it) takes damage and freezes.

Articuno's trophy can be obtained randomly in the lottery.
