Or was it Y? Or maybe Y and L? I know it's one or two of those 3 buttons you have to hold for the orange layout, but I don't have my 3DS on me right now so I can't check :(

There are actually 3 variations I believe.

Standard Holding L Holding L and R

Holding L and R gives you an different layout of Balloon Fight annd the grass is orange. Just thought I say so
