This article refers to a main character in terms of a player. It does not refer to the main character of a game (i.e. protagonist)

A player's main character (often shortened to "main") is the character he or she uses the most often in tournaments. For instance, Isai Alvarado's main is Captain Falcon. "Main" also can be used as a verb (mains, mained, maining): Ken Hoang mains Marth and Fox. Mains contrast with secondary characters, which are used in specific situations or just for casual play.

It is possible for a player to use more than one main character, though multiple mains is generally quite rare. Multiple mains are more common with low tier mainers as they usually require more than one character in order to face all matchups.
