The singles tournament consists of poules followed by a 32-man (24 players + 8 'byes') double elimination bracket.
 
The team tournament is done by double elimination.
 
If there is time left, a low-tier tournament will be played.

First match in a set the stage is either agreed upon or random. All further matches within a set the loser of the previous match gets to pick stage. ZEST is a series of tournaments held in the Netherlands. ZEST stands for Zoetermeer Extreme Smash Tournament. The host of the tournament is Exalador, who is assisted by NGCXX. So far, the location for the tournament has always been the city of Zoetermeer. Although it is one of the younger series of tournaments in The Netherlands, ZEST is already considered to be among the best series of tournaments in The Netherlands.
