I do believe that this can be made as a point. While it's true that Fates was out in Japan well before the DLC was, I still firmly believe that the addition of Corrin in Smash was a means of cross-promotion for Fates, at least for Western audiences - the basis of this being that every release outside of Japan was after the DLC's release. While nothing is proven, the evidence strongly suggests that Corrin was being used to bring Fire Emblem back to popularity in the West.
