The tournament continued without any sets being replayed. Many players and spectators were frustrated by the mistake and the outcome, believing that the competitive integrity of the tournament had been ruined; this was further emphasized by the tournament being the conclusion to {{Trn|Smash World Tour 2021}}, which had a $150,000 dollar prize pool. Criticism was aimed at the [[tournament organizer]]s for failing to check the ruleset before top 12 began, however, it was revealed that the ruleset had been verified before top 12 began,<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/TKbreezy/status/1472743789483732993?s=20||title=https://twitter.com/TKbreezy/status/1472743789483732993}}</ref> causing speculation that the rule change was made during top 12 by either a player in bracket or a tournament organizer.
