:I may or may not be fueling the fire right now, and I'm not going to address everything you said above, but just to be clear, a statement can be both obviously false and non-malicious. Like a kid can say that Santa Claus / the Easter Bunny is real. Or if you're just learning about times tables and say that 3 times 9 is 12. Or, sometimes when you're cracking jokes or being sarcastic (at least when you're not trying to tear someone down). An obviously false and non-malicious statement usually comes about from some sort of misunderstanding or misconception, which I'd say is what happened here.
