brawl music oddities[edit]
General:
- Remixes tend to be listed before rips.
- Late songs are more likely to be rips or lastmin remixes.
Mario:
- Ground Theme 2 is A16, between Bob-omb Battlefield and Mario Bros. Added lastminute?
- A18-19 are missing completely (between Mario Bros and Mario Circuit) - Mario Golf and Chill???
- 18 through 16 are totally out of order chronologically
- A01 through 10 = remixes from final game (series order = Mario mainline, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario RPG)
- A11 is a cut Partners in Time track, probably a remix.
- A12 - The fabled source of much debate. I actually think it's not impossible it truly is Forest Maze. The filename is explicitly the same name as the track... its placement could just as easily indicate it to be a rip or a last-minute remix. If it is, it almost certainly would have been cut for failing to receive approval for Square. I'm 50/50 on the Toadwood Forest theory because while the placement just as easily could refer to Partners in Time, there's way too many chronological inconsistencies in filenames for that to be strictly true, and the filename doesn't actually match up with its Japanese name. So...
- A13 > A15 = Rips from Delfino Plaza
- A16 and A17 = Late retro remixes
- A20 > A22 = MK Remixes
- A23 = MK rip
- Mario Bros. is counted as a Nintendo song ingame, but grouped with Mario here, MariO Kart is also considered a separate universe
DK:
- B01 through B06 = remixes EXCEPT B02 (Map Page/Bonus Stage). Cut remix?
- B7 = Storm Hill rip, between Bramble Blast and Jungle Level 2. Cut remix or just the last three tracks added late?
- B8 through 10 seem to have been last-minute (Extra Jungle Japes, 25m (joke song), Barrel Blast rip)
- Extra Jungle Japes is credited as Ver. 1 despite being made later (Kentaro Ishizaka)
Zelda:
- Ballad of the Wind Fish (C6) is missing
- Bridge of Eldin’s songs are listed in order, Pirate Ship’s are jumbled as follows: Molgera>Blue Maiden>Gerudo Valley>Termina Field>Dragon Roost>Great Sea. Chronologically, Molgera and Blue Maiden should be at the end. (Cut remixes???)
- If Molgera and Blue Maiden are counted as remixes, then the remix order HOLDS chronologically and it simply starts again in rip order
- So it seems that remixes were cut for them? Molgera was cut in 4 and replaced by a remix in Ultimate...
Metroid:
- Nothing unusual, all remixes and rips are credited in chronological order (would be the same even if not)
Yoshi;
- E01 (Yoshi’s Story Ending) is first, Obstacle Course (Winter/Fall) is last, probably lastminute
- Otherwise nothing unusual
Kirby:
- The Legendary Air Ride Machine is first - possible that Sakurai considers it Halberd’s main theme? (MK Revenge took its place for the final game, but all games since use Legendary Air Ride Machine as its default)
- Other than that, all remixes are in the same order EXCEPT F09 (Forest/Nature Area) which is a rip. Possible cut remix? It was replaced with a remix in the next game.
- Squeak Squad Theme is a last-minute addition, it’s right at the end after the Air Ride rips. Hirokazu Tanaka joined the game late.
Star Fox:
- Space Armada and Area 6 Ver. 2 are at the end, possible late additions? Otherwise, same order and chronological logic.
Pokemon:
- Nothing unusual, all songs are in correct order.
F-Zero:
- Nothing unusual.
Fire Emblem:
- J01 “STAGE CHANGE” is missing (cut "stage transition" track for Castle Siege?)
- J05 “ERABESHIMONO” (Chosen Ones) is missing
- Preparing to Advance is placed before, instead of after, Winning Road (Roy’s Hope) and Attack
- Rips are all placed in the correct order
Mother:
- K02>K04 are all missing (known)
- K06 is missing (known)
- Other than that, nothing unusual, all songs in order, no rips to mess up
Pikmin:
- World Map (Pikmin 2) is first, probably due to being a remix
- Main Theme (Pikmin) rip, Stage Clear remix, and Ai no Uta (French) are all last in that order, possibly last-minute
WarioWare:
- M14 is missing, probably a generic microgame theme per the rest
- Otherwise, nothing unusual
Animal Crossing:
- Nothing unusual, other than “Title (Animal Crossing)” is actually from Wild World, though not treated as such ingame
Kid Icarus:
- Nothing unusual
Retro:
- Q01 “Famicom Medley” is a rip collection - all other songs from Q012 through Q12 are remixes. Possible cut remix? Song is cut in all later games...
- Q03 is missing (Stunt Race FX)
- Q14 “Douchuumen” is last, possibly from just being a rip
R (other part 2)
- R01 is missing
- R02 through R08 (remixes) are all in correct order
- R09 through R11 are rips, all in order
- R12 (Battle Scene/ Final Boss) and R13 (Shaberu!) are remixes - possibly added late?
- R14 and R15 are swapped in order (Excite Truck/Brain Age)
- R16 and R17 are probably lastminute rips (Wii Sports/Wii Play)
Metal Gear:
- S01 (MGS Main Theme) is missing
- S09 (Beatmania) is missing
- Yell: Dead Cell and Snake Eater: Instrumental (S04) and (S05) are grouped with remixes -
Sonic:
- U05 is missing, U04 is grouped with all other tracks despite being a remix, otherwise, nothing unusual
W (Melee):
- W04 is Brinstar Depths, not Brinstar
- W22 (between Battlefield and MM Melee 1) is missing. Filename “DX55” implies it’s Menu 2
- W24 is Temple - seemingly originally cut and then brought back later (originally replaced by Great Temple / Temple?)
- W25 - Final Destination
- W26 - Kongo Jungle (possibly cut and brought back)
- W27 - Brinstar (see above, possibly originally replaced by the remix on Norfair?)
- W28 and W29 - Venom and Mute City (possibly also originally replaced by their remixes)
- The Menu 2 Melee remix seems to have replaced a new Brawl Menu 2 theme that was never made, hence why it’s sorted internally as a Brawl remix rather than a Melee song
- X25 (Battlefield Ver 2) is a last-minute addition
Notes:
- Many of the lastminute additions seem to be rips that replaced remixes that were never made, or last-minute remixes Sakurai doesn’t seem to have been satisfie withd
Seemingly last-minute songs that were cut in 4:
- - Ground Theme 2 (Super Mario Bros.)
- - Gritzy Desert?
- - The Map Page / Bonus Level (rip, replaced by remix in Ultimate)
- - DK Jungle Level 1 (Barrel Blast)
- - Molgera Battle
- - The Great Sea
- - Forest/Nature Area (original)
- - Famicom Medley
- - Power-Up Music
- - Douchuumen
- - Shaberu! DS Cooking Navi
- - Wii Shop Channel
- - Mii Channel
- - Charge! (Wii Play)
