The series is a sub-series of the Mario universe, and therefore is represented by the Mario logo. The first game, Paper Mario, was released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 to critical acclaim; since then, 5 more entries were released, each for a different console: The Thousand-Year Door for the Gamecube, Super Paper Mario for the Wii, Sticker Star for the 3DS, Color Splash for the Wii U, and The Origami King for the Switch.

Fighters[edit]

  • Paper Mario, the eponymous protagonist of the series. His moveset is mostly based off the first 3 Paper Mario games and all 4 of his specials utilize one of his partners from the first 2 games.

Cave Story (洞窟物語, Cave Story) is a critically-acclaimed indie game created bt Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya. It was initially released for PC but has since expanded - officially and unofficially - to many other systems including almost every Nintendo console starting from the Game Boy Advance as well as Xbox, Dreamcast, Raspberry Pi, and even the TI Graphing Calculator. While Cave Story does not have a sequel, the game has been remastered twice: as Cave Story+ for Steam and the Switch and Cave Story 3D for the 3DS.

Fighters[edit]

  • Quote, the protagonist of the series. He is a robot that was sent to destroy the Demon Crown, but ultimately failed and fell dormant for 10 years. His moveset revolves around several weapons obtainable in the game. His entrance animation includes Balrog, one of the Doctor's assitants, while his Final Smash includes Curly Brace, his partner throughout the game.

Assist trophies[edit]

  • King, the strongest Mimiga who serves as the Mimiga Village's head and is the former wielder of Blade. When summoned, he charges forward quickly and slashes anything in his path; the final hit of his attack deals the most knockback and damage.

Stages[edit]

  • The Blood Stained Sanctuary, the infamous final location of Cave Story and the most difficult area in the game. The stage cycles through 2 locations: the sanctuary itself and the Seal Chamber, the location of the true final boss Ballos.
