The physics update effect occurs when one or more of a fighters' physics (e.g air speed, fall speed, gravity etc) is updated, while they are in the air, resulting in unusual results. Usually, this will simply override some temporary physics adjustments caused by special moves, if said adjustments were still in effect when the fighter's physics were updated. In some cases, this can result in bizarre or unexpected outcomes. While Inkling's Splat Roller used to be able to automatically trigger this in many situations, it no longer does for some of them. The following is a list of cases of this happening that I have found. All examples were tested using an Undamaged Speed ↑ Spirit set.

Note: the listed effects are based on physics being updated on the optimal frame. The later this occurs, the weaker the effect tends to be.

Fighter Circumstance Effect
Most fighters Special fall The fighter's regular air speed and air acceleration are restored, overriding the temporarily reduced values.
Most fighters with counters Counters The fighter will fall faster after activating the counter, due to the increased floatiness being overridden.
Link Spin attack Link will gain less height and start falling sooner, due to the temporary gravity reduction being removed.
Samus Bomb (Morph Ball) Samus will gain slightly less height and start falling slightly sooner. Her drastically increased air acceleration will be removed as well.
Fox Fox Illusion Fox will drop much more quickly during the ending lag in the air.
Fox Fire Fox Fox will bounce a slightly lower height off the ground when crashing into it.
Pikachu Thunder Pikachu will start falling during the discharge, rather than floating upwards until the animation ends or is cancelled. If Pikachu hits the ground during this time, the floating will reactivate.
Luigi Special fall Luigi will revert to his own fall speed, rather than using Mario's.
Ness PK Flash Ness will lose his reduced gravity while charging in the air.
Ness PSI Magnet Ness will lose his reduced gravity while holding in the air.
Peach Parasol fall Peach will revert to her normal falling speed, losing the floatiness of the parasol.
Peach Peach Bomber Peach will revert to her normal falling speed and gravity, falling faster than usual.
Bowser Whirling Fortress Bowser will lose his reduced gravity, and fall much faster during the move.
Bowser Bowser Bomb Bowser will revert to his normal gravity, instead of slowly floating upwards during the startup in the air.
Ice Climbers Belay Popo will fly much higher. Notably, the game cancels all of his vertical speed as soon as he enters special fall.
Ice Climbers Squall Hammer The Ice Climbers will no longer fall incredibly fast if they do not mash.
Sheik Vanish During the initial jump, Sheik will gain more height, but then begin falling instead of hovering until the teleport activates.
Sheik Bouncing Fish Sheik will gain more height from the jump.
Zelda Nayru's Love Zelda will lose the floatiness granted by the move.
Pichu Thunder Pichu will start falling during the discharge, rather than floating upwards until the animation ends or is cancelled. If Pichu hits the ground during this time, the floating will reactivate. Triggers automatically using Undamaged Speed ↑ at 0%.
Falco Fire Bird Falco will bounce up higher when crashing into the ground.
Young Link Spin Attack Young Link will gain much less height and start falling sooner.
Ganondorf Dark Dive Ganondorf will gain less height, and start falling sooner.
Mewtwo Teleport Mewtwo will start falling much sooner when re-appearing. Mewtwo gains less height if he teleported upwards.
Mewtwo Disable Mewtwo will lose the floating effect from the move.
Game & Watch Fire fall G&W will lose the reduced falling speed from the parachute.
Meta Knight Mach Tornado Meta Knight will begin falling sooner, and will have heavier physics overall.
Meta Knight Drill Rush Meta Knight will begin falling sooner during the jump on the activation.
Snake Cypher Snake will accelerate faster upwards, and reach a higher top speed.
Lucas PK Freeze Lucas will lose the floating effect when charging the move in the air.
Sonic Homing Attack Sonic will immediately stop rising while charging.
Sonic Spring Jump Sonic will gain noticeably more height from the jump.
Sonic Spin Dash Sonic will gain noticeably more height from the jump, and will be much floatier, akin to the move's physics in Brawl.
King Dedede Super Dedede Jump If his physics are updated before the jump, Dedede won't rise as far before the jump. If updated at the start of the jump, Dedede will gain far more height from the jump.
Lucario Extreme Speed Lucario will be noticeably floatier after the dash, and thus will gain more height if aimed upwards.
Toon Link Spin Attack Toon Link will gain noticeably less height, and start falling sooner.
Wolf Fire Wolf Wolf bounces higher, you know the drill...
Mega Man Rush Coil Mega Man will jump noticeably higher.
Wii Fit Trainer Header Wii Fit Trainer will gain less height, and start falling faster.
Wii Fit Trainer Super Hoop Wii Fit Trainer will gain less height, and start falling faster after the hoops fly off.
Palutena Warp Palutena will be floatier when re-appearing, and will gain more height if she's aiming upwards.
Pac-Man Pac-Jump Pac-Man will gain considerably more height from the jump.
Pac-Man Power Pellet Pac-Man will accelerate downwards more quickly after eating the pellet.
Pac-Man Hydrant Pac-Man will be considerably floatier when dropping the hydrant.
Shulk Back Slash Shulk will be noticeably floatier, and won't fall as fast when descending.
Ryu Focus Attack Ryu will lose the floaty effect while charging Focus Attack.
Corrin Dragon Lunge Corrin will jump higher.
Ridley Wing Blitz If Ridley's physics are updated during the dash, all of his vertical speed will be cancelled, while his horizontal speed won't.
King K. Rool Propellerpack K. Rool will gain slightly less height.
Incineroar Darkest Lariat Incineroar will lose the floating effect from the move in the air.
Piranha Plant Piranhacopter Piranha Plant will gain more height.
Hero Swoosh Hero will gain more height. The amount of extra height varies depending on which version is used.
Mii Swordfighter Hero's Spin Mii Swordfighter will gain noticeably less height, and start falling sooner.
Mii Gunner Lunar Launch The move lives up to its name.
Mii Gunner Cannon Jump Kick Mii Gunner gains noticeably more height.
