It's a very curious thing about our perceptual system that these things seem to happen so frequently, that is, confusion about the what phonemes are what. It's called the "problem of invariance" and I find it particularly fascinating that despite in 90% of contexts most speech sounds seem clear as day to us, there are still plenty of places where they aren't. The background noise obviously puts a lot of strain on the perceptual system as well as indexical cues ('sonic' shouting that is way different than a person saying it, is what I mean). Also, I would add, "Now I'll show you" does make much more sense, but alas, as with many things the developers did with brawl, the less sensible thing was opted for.
