According to the graph data, there is a correlation between tiers and character usage, but it also states that the casual players play the same characters just as much as tournament players in almost the exact same proportions (results for [http://i.imgur.com/leGt3EH.png 64], [http://i.imgur.com/ys5iwcb.png Melee], and [http://i.imgur.com/i57t8sQ.png Brawl].) Either tiers also affect casual character preferences or tier seem to have little statistical influence on tournament character preference, barring further data. The former has not been substantiated while the latter still seems to be true.
