Talk:Button mashing
Completion[edit]
As the person that added the incomplete tag, I will start the talk. As a SSBU player, but also with respect to 64, Brawl, and other Ultimate players, I highly suggest finishing this page. It provides more info to players of the games above, and also adds to the completion of the wiki. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk. SSBU Boi (talk) 10:50, December 10, 2020 (EST)
CPU mashing speed in Ultimate[edit]
I've tested Level 9 CPU mashing speed, and here is the result.
In a ditto setup, using Control mode, I've caused a shield break to both P1 and P2 (CPU) at 0% damage, beginning to hold shield on the same frame.
After switching back to CPU (Lv. 9), I've tried two modes of mashing:
- Alternating between two buttons assigned to the same action (X ⇄ Y) on every other frame, and
- Spinning the stick in every cardinal direction sequentially (↑→↓←) every frame.
As it turns out, the CPU is far from perfect-mashing. Of course, this is most likely intended, so as to not make CPUs borderline impossible to throw. But here's what I found out:
- Using Mode 1 (button inputs; non-perfect), I was still a couple of frames earlier out of stun than the CPU.
- Using Mode 2 (stick inputs; perfect), I was out of stun nearly two full seconds earlier (slightly less than 120 frames) than the CPU.
Just to debunk the myth that CPUs have perfect mashing. Trust me, if they had, you wouldn't enjoy playing against them. Ramjam (talk) 07:33, February 10, 2026 (UTC)
