CrappyCaptureDevice (sometimes shortened CCD) is a historian of the content that appears in the Super Smash Bros. series based on previous games. His video series explaining the history behind different in-game elements of the Smash games, entitled "History Behind Super Smash Bros.," is considered by many the definitive history of these games. CrappyCaptureDevice's videos use footage from source games as well as Melee and Brawl to describe the similarities and differences between the relevant games.

CrappyCaptureDevice (sometimes shortened CCD) was a renowned historian of the content that appears in the Super Smash Bros. series based on previous games. His video series explaining the history behind different in-game elements of the Smash games, entitled "History Behind Super Smash Bros.," was considered by many the definitive history of these games. CrappyCaptureDevice's videos used footage from source games as well as Melee and Brawl to describe the similarities and differences between the relevant games. As of December 1, 2011, CrappyCaptureDevice indefinitely suspended the History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl project over reasons he did not disclose, just saying in his tweet that he had no choice in the matter, and has been completely inactive on YouTube and his Twitter ever since. His Twitter account was later suspended in early 2022 for unknown reasons.

The History Behind Super Smash Bros. series was started in December 2006 with the origins of the characters' movesets in Super Smash Bros. Melee. CrappyCaptureDevice's popularity on YouTube increased and he continued with his series of videos, alongside some tutorials of how he does them, in time documenting the history of stages, music and other elements as well. Upon the release of Brawl, CCD was asked if he would do the same style of historical analysis with the new Smash game, to which he answered that he might do so but not immediately. Before CCD began his videos on the history of Brawl, many others on YouTube made similar history videos to explain elements of the game's history.
