==Sound effects==
While sound effects are not tied to attack effects, there are several different slashing sounds effects that are often used by attacks with a slash effect; there are two slashing sound effects in ''Super Smash Bros.'', while ''Melee'', ''Super Smash Bros. 4'' and ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'' each have three, while ''Brawl'' has one sound played at differing speeds and pitches (e.g. {{SSBB|Link}}'s [[down aerial]] has a low pitch, whereas {{SSBB|Bowser}}'s [[neutral attack]] has a medium pitch). However, because sound effects and attack effects are separate, many slashing moves use other sound effects; for example, [[Fox]]'s clean up smash in ''Brawl'', ''SSB4'' and ''Ultimate'' uses a kicking sound effect, while [[Roy]]'s non-[[sweetspot]]ted sword moves use punching sound effects.

In ''Melee'', [[Young Link]] uniquely uses "punching" sound effects for all his slash attacks, an aesthetic difference to show the discrepancy between his weaker [[List of swords#Kokiri Sword|Kokiri Sword]] and [[Link]]'s stronger [[List of swords#Master Sword|Master Sword]]. This carries on to his successor in ''Brawl'', [[Toon Link]], who would use punching sound effects for his sword in all of his appearances, with the exception of ''Ultimate'', where he gains a unique set of cartoony slash effects. While Young Link would return in ''Ultimate'', he now uses standard slash sound effects in said game.

In ''Melee'' and ''Ultimate'', two slash attacks that [[priority|collide]] will produce a clanging sound effect reminiscent of metallic noises akin to swords clashing. The [[Beam Sword]] has a unique set of sound effects for clashing, which produces a sharp crackling noise similar to {{s|wikipedia|lightsaber}}s from the ''{{s|wikipedia|Star Wars}}'' franchise.

In ''Brawl'', ''SSB4'' and ''Ultimate'', there is a set of slash-based sound effects that are noticeably slower and deeper pitched than regular slash sounds. In ''Brawl'', these were reserved for [[Ike]] because of {{s|fireemblemwiki|Ragnell}}'s status as a heavy broadsword. In ''SSB4'', these sound effects, which have been altered, are also used as part of [[Pair Up]], [[Shulk]]'s [[Back Slash]] if he hits an opponent's back with the move, and [[Dunban]]'s attacks during [[Chain Attack]]. In ''Ultimate'', these sounds also play for [[Marth]] and [[Roy]]'s sweet spotted sword attacks, alongside all of [[Chrom]]'s sword attacks.
