'''Rodin''' ({{ja|ロダン|Rodan}}, ''Rodan'') is a supporting character in {{uv|Bayonetta}}. He runs a bar called the Gates of Hell, acting as the shop-keep and weapons smith for [[Bayonetta]]. With the usage of Golden LPs, magical records found in the ''Bayonetta'' series, he can supply her with powerful new weapons.

==Origin==

Rodin is a high-ranking demon who acts as a demonic weaponsmith, forging weapons made from the souls of demons for those capable of wielding them and able to afford them. Once a weaponsmith for Paradiso, he was a high-ranking angel with the Dea status, second only to its ruler Jubileus, The Creator. However, after a failed attempt to take over Paradiso for his own reasons (or perhaps after being falsely accused of doing so by jealous rivals, as his profile in the Hierarchy of Laguna suggests), he was cast from Paradiso to Inferno.

Now one of the most powerful ranking demons in Inferno, he harvests the souls of the fellow damned and fuses them into weapons. He hawks these wares from his bar, the Gates of Hell. Rodin created Bayonetta's [[List of firearms#Bayonetta's_Handguns|signature guns]] "Scarborough Fair" and "Love is Blue".

In the first game, he has a mostly professional relationship with Bayonetta. He provides her with the weapons she needs to slay angels, and she provides him with halos, the in-game currency. In the second game, he is shown to be far more light-hearted than before; dressing as a street-side Santa during the holiday season, and proclaiming that disbelief in Santa Claus is "sacrilege". He also has a seemingly strong bond with the family of Enzo, Bayonetta's informant.

After Jeanne lost her soul, he uses magic to preserve Jeanne's body on Bayonetta's behalf, proclaiming in secret he hopes she can "create miracles". After Bayonetta manages to get into Inferno, he claims that if she dies, he would be the first to devour her soul, before fighting alongside her and protecting her from multiple waves of powerful demons. By the end of the game, Rodin is there to celebrate Bayonetta's victory alongside the rest of the main cast, working with Luka to hand out flyers for his bar as the post-holiday season was known for lots of heavy drinkers.

Rodin serves as a secret boss in both ''Bayonetta'' and ''Bayonetta 2''; the first game has him using his former angel combat skills, while the second has him use his current demonic powers at full strength. He is also a playable character in the second game's multiplayer mode, Tag Climax.

Rodin appears as an [[Assist Trophy]]. He is voiced by Dave Fennoy in English and Tesshō Genda in Japanese and reuses voice clips from ''Bayonetta 2''. He will say "Let the games begin!" when summoned, and traverses around the stage using abilities similar to [[Bayonetta]]'s, though significantly stronger. He is active for 20 seconds, has a base HP of 55, and can be KO'd which will give a point if that happens.

His attacks consist of:
*His own version of Wicked Weaves, which will either consist of him summoning giant versions of his arms for one punch, two punches, or an uppercut similar to Bayonetta's up smash.
**His single punch deal 20% damage.
**His two-punch attack deals 6.5% followed by 20%, which is identical to his single.
**His uppercut deals 22%.
*His version of [[After Burner Kick]], which can go diagonally upwards (~25°) or diagonally downwards (~35°), which deal high knockback instead of being combo tools like Bayonetta's. The downward version is active on [[frame]] 6 and can pass through [[soft platform]]s during the first 10 frames while the upward is active frame 11. Both versions deal 18% and end on frame 23. His leading leg is [[intangible]] while the hitbox is active.
*If in the air, he can perform a [[stall then fall]] where he stomps onto the ground. Deals 16% while falling and 18% when landing. Can pass through soft platforms during the first 38 frames.
*If on the ground, he can perform a short hop and then slam into the ground, hitting a large area for 18% damage. His legs are intangible between frames 3-22.

Before he departs, he can toss a random item while announcing "Huh! Drink's on the house!" He can toss: [[Ray Gun]], [[Steel Diver]], [[Super Scope]] (all with a {{Fractions|12|62}} chance), [[Drill]], [[Beam Sword]] (all with a {{Fractions|10|62}} chance), and an [[Ore Club]] ({{Fractions|6|62}} chance). If his summoner is within 30 [[unit]]s of him, he will always toss an item, otherwise it is an 80% chance. If all of those items are turned off, then he will leave the stage without tossing items.

Rodin has a spawn chance of {{Fractions|38|2086}}. He can be summoned on all stages in a standard versus match.

Rodin also appears as two different [[primary spirit]]s. *In the Nintendo Switch version of ''Bayonetta 2'', players are capable of scanning 32 amiibo per day from any supported series in Rodin's shop, with him claiming she has a package from someone. Depending on the series of amiibo, he will make a comment about the location the package is from. If a ''SSB4'' amiibo is scanned, he claims Bayonetta has a package from her "fight club", and then asks her that she take him with her the next time she's invited.
**The ''Bayonetta 2'' port for Nintendo Switch came out before ''Ultimate'' was revealed, making this chronologically fitting.
