It takes place around New Donk City, part of the {{s|mariowiki|Metro Kingdom}} from ''{{s|mariowiki|Super Mario Odyssey}}''. {{SSBU|Dr. Mario}} is fought here for his unlocking battle.

==Stage overview==
On this stage, the battle starts out in front of the {{iw|mariowiki|New Donk City Hall}}. As the match progresses, a platform will periodically appear and carry the fighters up New Donk City Hall, stopping at two spots along the way up before getting to the very top. There are four variations of the second stop: two of which have the skyscraper in the center with different [[soft platform]] layouts, and the other two being either positioned to the left or right side of the building. After arriving at the top, the stage platform will then carry the fighters back down to the ground level for the cycle to repeat. 

A unique feature to the stage is its dynamic background music. If the music track for the match is ''{{SSBUMusicLink|Super Mario Bros.|Jump Up, Super Star!}}'', the drummer of the {{iw|mariowiki|band|Super Mario Odyssey}} will appear the ground level; as the match progresses, the other members (a bassist, trumpeter, and guitarist) and [[Pauline]] will float by in the background. If a fighter touches one of them, they will add their instrument to the music, or vocals in Pauline's case; they will also join the drummer at ground level when the stage loops. The same thing occurs with the track ''{{SSBUMusicLink|Super Mario Bros.|Ground Theme (Band Performance) - Super Mario Bros.}}'', except that Pauline will not appear as the song does not include vocals. If any other song is playing, the band members and Pauline are absent and there are instead generic {{s|mariowiki|New Donker}}s on the ground level, jumping and cheering.

The {{s|mariowiki|Odyssey}}, Mario's airship that he uses to venture to the different kingdoms in ''Super Mario Odyssey'', flies in the background of the top of the city hall. {{s|mariowiki|Captain Toad}} cameos at the top of the city hall; he appears on every third loop of the stage within a single battle, or always if music from ''{{s|mariowiki|Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker}}'' is playing, such as ''{{SSBUMusicLink|Super Mario Bros.|Plucky Pass Beginnings}}''.

When hazards are turned off, all moving platforms, except the transformation platform, do not move. Pauline and the band are also absent, which means the music will not dynamically change, even if set to the songs listed above.

===Ω form and Battlefield form===
The [[Ω form]] and [[Battlefield form]] are suspended in the air and their main platform is reminiscent of New Donk City Hall, such as the floor resembling the building's rooftops and the walls resembling the building's facade. The stage is also the same size and shape as {{SSBU|Final Destination}} and {{SSBU|Battlefield}}, respectively. New Donk City Hall and the surrounding area is absent. The three [[soft platform]]s of the Battlefield form resemble the floating soft platforms that appear in certain stops of the regular form. The stage does not move up, and Pauline and the band, regardless of what song is being played, as well as Captain Toad and the New Donkers, are also absent. The Odyssey still appears in the background.

==Tournament Legality==
The stage has been banned for a variety of factors such as the walk-off blast zones in certain segments, the walls creating caves of life and the constantly shifting platforms.

==Origin==

This stage is based around the {{s|MarioWiki|New Donk City Hall}} of the {{s|mariowiki|Metro Kingdom}}, which is the eighth kingdom [[Mario]] and [[Cappy]] visit in ''{{s|mariowiki|Super Mario Odyssey}}''. When the duo first arrives in the city, the {{s|mariowiki|Mechawiggler}}, reigning over the city hall, is in control of the city's electricity. Mayor [[Pauline]], upon seeing Mario visiting, asks him to take care of the creature, and after he defeats it, she invites him to New Donk City's upcoming festival to show her gratitude; however, she needs four backup musicians to perform in its musical number and tasks Mario with recruiting them. Mario recruits a drummer, a guitarist, a bassist, and a trumpeter to form the band, with Pauline as the singer. Then Mario goes in an underground sewer to deal with the power plant. After Mario restores power to New Donk City, the festivities begin with the band performing "Jump Up, Super Star!" on a stage built on New Donk City Hall.

{{s|mariowiki|Captain Toad}} originates from ''{{s|mariowiki|Super Mario Galaxy}}'' and appeared as a playable character in several bonus levels in ''{{s|mariowiki|Super Mario 3D World}}''. These went on to inspire the game ''{{s|mariowiki|Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker}}'', which was originally released on the [[Wii U]] but later got ported to both the [[Nintendo 3DS]] and [[Nintendo Switch]], both of which would feature levels based on ''Super Mario Odyssey'', including New Dok City. In ''Super Mario Odyssey'', he can be found in a specific location in the majority of the game's kingdoms, including in the Metro Kingdom on a long girder located behind New Donk City Hall. He gives Mario a {{s|mariowiki|Power Moon}} when interacted with.

New Donk City would later appear in the climax of ''{{s|mariowiki|Donkey Kong Bananza}}'', where Donkey Kong and Pauline face off against the returning [[King K. Rool]], who was planning to use the wish granting Banandium Root to destroy and consume the entire city.
