The Excitebike biker was one of many characters - such as {{h2|List of SSBM trophies (Others)|Bubbles}} (from {{uv|Clu Clu Land}}), the main character from {{uvm|Urban Champion}}, and the {{h2|List of SSBM trophies (Others)|Balloon Fighter}} (from {{uv|Balloon Fight}}) - who [[Unused content (SSBM)#Characters|were considered]] as representatives of the NES era in ''Melee''; ultimately this role was given to the {{SSBM|Ice Climbers}}, as [[Masahiro Sakurai]] saw them as having more potential for an interesting moveset. A factor cited as to why the Excitebike biker wasn't chosen was the difficulty of designing a proper jump mechanic for him.<ref>[http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n01/n64/software/nus_p_nalj/smash/flash/1009/index.html]</ref> In the final game, the Excitebike biker just makes a minor cameo as a trophy.

In ''Brawl'', Excitebikes appear as an [[Assist Trophy]]: multiple Excitebike bikers race around the stage, dealing damage to any opponent they hit. The Excitebikes appear as 8-bit sprites in a reference to their design in the original ''Excitebike''.

A happy return to this racing classic, Excitebike: World Rally, was released in 2009 on the Wii. Racers use a variety of techniques in courses set all over the world. You can even make your own tracks!

Excitebike's Spirit Battle uses an army of {{SSBU|Wario}} puppet fighters and is fought on the [[Mario Circuit]] stage. During the battle, Wario favors [[Wario Bike]], referencing the motorbikes the Excitebike racers ride.
