Gargantuans is the 25th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Gargantuans (ガルガンチュア, Gargantua) is the 25th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In this match, the player's character is Giant Bowser and the enemy is Giant Donkey Kong. The objective is to beat Giant Donkey Kong. Tiny Mario and Tiny Peach also appear, but won't pose a threat since they will both probably be KO'd by Giant DK's first attack anyway. Donkey Kong will sometimes self-destruct between the two buildings on the right of the stage.

The player controls Giant Bowser in a stock match against Giant Donkey Kong on the Fourside stage, where the player starts with 1 stock while Giant Donkey Kong starts off with 2 stocks. A tiny CPU Mario and tiny Peach also appear; however, due to their tiny size, they do not attack and are easily KO'd. This event match does not feature a time limit. Giant Donkey Kong's artificial intelligence is set at Level 9, while the tiny CPU Mario and Peach's artificial intelligence is set at Level 8.
This event acts as an homage to monster films and the wikipedia genre; the inclusion of Giant Donkey Kong is a reference to wikipedia, a well-known American movie monster, and Giant Bowser acts as a reference to wikipedia, a movie monster hailing from Japan. As a result of these two appearing on Fourside, a large city environment like those seen in typical monster films, the entire Event Match is similar to the concept of the film wikipedia. The inclusion of Tiny Mario and Tiny Peach emulates the frequent use of helpless civilians in such movies.

When this match starts, Giant Bowser will spawn on the soft platform at the right side of the stage, while Giant Donkey Kong will spawn on the rightmost platform of the stage, the tiny Mario will spawn on the top of the skyscraper in the center of the sage, and Peach will spawn on the platform to the right of the center of the stage. Giant Donkey Kong will also self-destruct between the two buildings on the right side of the stage. Giant Bowser can also survive at high damage (around 200%-999% damage) due to their size and knockback reduction modifiers when damaged by Giant Donkey Kong. The tiny Mario and Peach do not need to be KO'd to clear the event match.

Trivia
Trivia
*The tiny Mario and Peach do not make any sounds in this event match.
*The tiny Mario and Peach present do not make sounds during this event and do not have to be KO'd to clear the event.
*This event match is an homage to the wikipedia film genre, which centers around giant monsters. The tiny Mario and Peach represent the helpless citizens in those films, with their smaller-than-normal size reflecting the size difference between the humans and the kaiju. The Fourside stage references the main setting of most giant monster movies and kaiju films, which often take place in a large city setting.
*While the name of the event has to do with the size of both Bowser and DK, it is also a reference to the 1966 kaijuu film "War of the Gargatuas," otherwise known in Japan as "Frankenstein's Monsters: Sanda Vs. Gaira". Sanda is a brown Gargantua while his brother Gaira is green; unlike in the film where the brown one is the protagonist and the green one is the antagonist, this event reverses the roles so the green one is the protagonist and the brown one is the antagonist.
**This event match is likely a reference to the 1962 film, wikipedia. Giant Bowser represents wikipedia, a giant reptilian monster originating from Japan, and Giant Donkey Kong represents wikipedia, a giant ape monster originating from the United States.  Ironically, despite the player using Giant Bowser to KO Giant Donkey Kong, in the film, King Kong emerges victorious from the final battle against Godzilla.
**This event match's name is a reference to the size of Giant Bowser and Giant Donkey Kong, as well as a reference to the 1966 kaiju film, wikipedia, otherwise known in Japan as Frankenstein's Monsters: Sanda Vs. Gaira. Giant Donkey Kong represents the brown Gargantua, Sanda, while Giant Bowser represents the green Gargantua, Gaira. Ironically, despite Sanda serving as the protagonist Gargantua and Gaira serving as the antagonistic Gargantua, in this event match, the roles are reversed, so the green Gargantua is the protagonist while the brown one is the antagonist.
