Yoshi's Egg is the 13th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Yoshi's Egg (ヨッシーのたまご, Yoshi's Egg) is the 13th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.  The player uses Yoshi to protect a unique item, Yoshi's Egg, from his opponents (Pikachu, Fox, and Donkey Kong). The Egg can be attacked by any character (including Yoshi), and will break if attacked too much, resulting in a loss. The Event will also end in defeat if the Egg passes through a blast line other than the top one (though the player can still fail if any character gets Star KO'd while holding onto the egg). If the player manages to keep the Egg "alive" for over 55 seconds, then they win the event; high scores are measured by the amount of KOs Yoshi can garner.

The player controls Yoshi and protect an egg for 55 seconds against a team of CPU Pikachu, Fox, and Donkey Kong on the Rainbow Cruise stage. The CPU Pikachu's artificial intelligence is set at Level 5, while the CPU Fox's artificial intelligence is set at Level 3 and the CPU Donkey Kong's artificial intelligence is set at Level 4.
Trivia
When the match starts, Yoshi will spawn on the left side of the main platform, while Pikachu spawns on the right side of the main platform, Fox spawns on the top soft platform, and Donkey Kong spawns in the center of the main platform. Each player starts off with infinite stocks. Yoshi must protect a unique item, Yoshi's Egg, from Pikachu, Fox, and Donkey Kong. The egg can take damage from any character, including Yoshi. It will break if it is attacked too much, which will result in a loss. The event will also end in failure if the egg passes through a blast line other than the top one, although the player can still fail if any character is Star KO'd while in possession of the egg. If Yoshi protects the egg from being destroyed in 55 seconds, it will result in a victory. High scores are measured by the number of times Yoshi KOs his opponents.
*The name of this event is the same as the Japanese name of the bulbapedia developed game, Yoshi.

*This event is also a reference to how after the dinosaurs went extinct. Small mammals ate the dinosaurs's eggs. This is another theory of why the dinosaurs became extinct. With the Yoshi egg, in this event, the player is Yoshi (a dinosaur). The opponents are mammals including Donkey Kong (an ape), Pikachu (a mouse), and Fox (a red fox).

Trivia
*This event match's name is similar to the Japanese name of the bulbapedia-developed game, Yoshi.
*This is one of only four event matches in Melee where the player has infinite stocks, the others including Event 5: Spare Change, Event 31: Mario Bros. Madness, and Event 32: Target Acquired.
*This event match is likely a reference to a theory of how the dinosaurs became extinct; specifically, because small mammals ate their eggs. In this event, the player's assigned character is Yoshi (a Wikipedia, possibly an Wikipedia, defending an egg), and the opponents are mammals: Fox (a red fox), Pikachu (a mouse), and Donkey Kong (a gorilla).
